The Northshore School District..has the eleventh-largest pupil enrollment in Washington State. The district contains approximately 125,000 people and enrolls approximately 20,000 students in grades K-12. There are twenty elementary schools, six junior high schools, and three high schools, plus an alternative high school, Northshore Networks, and a pre-school program. The district encompasses 60 square miles, stretching from Lake Washington on the west to the Snoqualmie River Valley on the east, and from Mill Creek and Maltby on the north to Redmond and Juanita on the south. Building on a strong base of public education founded in the community in 1878, Northshore offers basic and special education, gifted and honors classes, optional alternative education, a nationally recognized music and fine arts program, diversified vocational education offerings and special programs such as English Language Learners and outdoor education. The district employs 2,400 people, of which approximately 1,200 are certificated. Northshore enjoys good labor relations with its employees and provides a variety of professional development opportunities for employees. The district lies within close proximity of five universities and six community colleges for continuing education. The Northshore School Board seeks staff and community input for its planning; citizens are involved through a variety of special committees and task forces, and web surveys. The district has excellent community support and parental involvement and benefits from continuous voter support of school levies (since 1942).

Scope of Responsibilities: This position reports to the Executive Director of Support Services and provides overall leadership, mentoring and oversight to various operational departments, such as Custodial Operations, Grounds and Facility Maintenance, and Transportation. Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree in a relevant field of study; an equivalent amount of education, training or experience, as determined by Human Resources, may substitute for the required degree Experience managing and supervising a diverse unionized workforce in a complex operational environment Knowledge of principles and best practices related to safety Successfully apply knowledge of principles and best practices related to property and facility management Ability to learn and apply complex regulations, policies, laws and legal documents Demonstrated success in hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising personnel Demonstrated success in managing financial and staff resources to administer complex responsibilities Demonstrated success in meeting customer service expectations in a diverse and complex environment Demonstrated ability to define, implement and manage critical service levels for a multi facility operations and maintenance function Ability to mentor and develop people, fostering growth, creativity and flexibility Ability to lead using established shared decision making processes Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing, and to articulate technical information to non-technical groups Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards Experience in business reorganization and strategic planning Demonstrated proficient use of computers, technology and various software applications

Duties and Responsibilities: Oversees the planning, organization, and management of assigned work programs and staff. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, other district staff, parents, and the general public Keeps abreast of current regulations and assures District is in compliance with local, state, and federal laws applicable to assigned areas. Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff. Maintains effective employee relations; may participate in collective bargaining. Analyzes and evaluates operations and implement corrective action as necessary to resolve problems and ensure cost-effective operations. Oversees selection and delivery of contracted services in assigned areas of responsibility; ensures compliance with rules, regulations, and laws regarding public works contracts. Ensures effective communication in assigned areas with other District staff. Interprets and uniformly applies complex procedures, policies, collective bargaining agreements, and law to areas of practice. Develops procedures, informs and recommends policy revision for School Board approval. Develops long and short-range goals; develops and tracks monthly and annual matrix or bench marks, analyzes systems and requirements; makes necessary changes in alignment with District goals. Participates in District level decision making; represents the District on various internal and external committees. Manages or directs the management of all assigned budgets; approves expenses; prepares analysis of project or program expenditures; prepares department budget enhancements or revisions. Develops and maintains comprehensive and effective systems to efficiently deploy resources and ensure optimization of budgeted resources. Ensures potential safety hazards are corrected and/or prevented; assures safety standards are observed and met by employees; addresses environmental safety concerns. Supervises preventative maintenance and energy management programs; tracks utility usage trends. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions Primarily works in an office environment; required to meet inflexible deadlines; experiences frequent interruptions; deals with distraught or angry people; operates a computer requiring visual concentration, dexterity and exposure to a video display terminal; must be willing to travel to various work sites, respond to emergency calls during non-business hours, and work outside in inclement weather. Compensation/Salary: Salary Range: $93,351 110,233* *Salary is based on the current 2012/2013 salary schedule and is subject to adjustment. Placement on the salary range will depend on the qualifications of the individual selected. Stipend for MA degree $2,842.00; PhD - $5,423.00 Work Year: Full time, 12 month position. 220 work days, 25 vacation days, 13 paid holidays, and 2 personal days.
