The Program
Day One: Monday, 21 March 2011

Overview
Forecasting future events and developments has become an imperative for all countries that aspire to advance and progress. In light of the current developments the world is witnessing at various levels and their subsequent effects, the ECSSR seeks to undertake a scientific predictive analysis of future developments as a primary step in turning current strategies into clear, well-structured action plans. Under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and President of the ECSSR, and based on ECSSRs firm belief in the importance of forward-looking local, regional and international studies, its 16th Annual Conference will be convened under the title Global Strategic Developments: A Futuristic Vision. The Conference will comprise five panel sessions, in which 18 lectures will be delivered by various prominent experts, scholars, researchers and officials from the UAE, the Arab Gulf states and other countries. On the first day, the Conference will discuss the future of the global political system, unipolarism and superpower politics, the role of rising powers in the global system, and the future of the United Nations and its Security Council. On the second day, the first panel will examine future military developments, the future of war, the future of military alliances, and will offer a strategic vision for Gulf security. The second panel will explore security challenges, risk management and protection of vital installations, future threats to national security, and smart cities of the future and their implications for state security. The third and final days discussions will address the global economic outlook by examining international financial institutions and global economic stability, the future impact of the international economic crisis, and the future of the international monetary system. The concluding panel will formulate a roadmap for the future of the Arab Gulf states based on projected strategic developments and related prospects for human development in the Gulf.
