Get to Know the Tennessee State Alumnae Team

Each of us had a chance to sit down and answer a few questions to help our sisters get to know us better. The State Alumnae Team: State Alumnae ChairmanDonna Baldwin (donna.baldwin@vanderbilt. edu) Membership CoordinatorHeather Hilley (hilleydz@yahoo.com) Public Relations CoordinatorStephanie Bishop (steph.bishop02@gmail.com) Reconnection CoordinatorHeather Taylor (hbtaylor10@gmail.com) What chapter/school were you initiated at? Donna: Pi Chapter, Eureka College Heather H.: Delta Delta, Georgia State University Stephanie: Iota Iota, Middle Tennessee State University Heather T.: Iota Iota, Middle Tennessee State University What semester and year were you initiated? Donna: Spring 2000 Heather H.: Fall 2003 Stephanie: Fall 2002 Heather T.: Fall 1998 Where is the school you were initiated at located? Donna: Eureka, IL Heather H.: Atlanta, GA Stephanie: Murfreesboro, TN Heather T.: Murfreesboro, TN Why did you join Delta Zeta: Donna: I joined as a sophomore because I knew the DZs at EC to be a wonderful group of ladies. I had had the whole previous school year to get to know them, and I was impressed with the feeling of sisterhood that was so apparent among them. It was much more obvious than with the other sororities on campus. They were such a close knit groups of girls, yet still very diverse in their interests and personalities. They made me feel welcome among them even before I joined. When I was offered an open bid I couldnt refuse! It was one of the best decisions I made in college. My only regret was that I didnt join as a freshman! Heather H.: I went through formal recruitment and the girls that I met during that time made me feel so at ease and welcomed. I really enjoyed their energy and spirit! I also didn't mind that the colors are AWESOME and everybody loves a turtle :) Stephanie: I went through formal recruitment my freshman year. Delta Zeta had the nicest girls and were the most sincere to me. They were a perfect fit for what I was looking for in a sisterhood and I was lucky that they agreed and wanted me to be apart of it as well! Heather T.: They felt like a welcoming, fun group of women. What makes you want to stay involved as alumnae? Donna: I still enjoy that connection of sisterhood I felt as a collegiate, only now my family has grown infinitely to include sisters from all over the country. I love meeting women who were initiated at schools so different from my own tiny alma mater, and finding that, even though our college experiences were often vastly different, our DZ ones often were not. I truly feel that we are Delta Zetas for life, and all the reasons that I joined as a collegiate are reasons to stay involved now. In fact, most of the friends I still keep in touch with from college were chapter sisters of mine, and I dont think we would have been as close without Delta Zeta. Heather H.: Being a transplant to Nashville I thought that it would be a great way to meet some new people. I have also really wanted to get involved in service and giving back. I think that being an active alumnae is a great way to do that. Stephanie: Delta Zeta gave me so much as a collegiate. I stay involved and give back because I know without DZ, I wouldnt be the person I am today. I want to continue to help give others what DZ gave me. Heather T.: When were initiated, it was for a lifelong membership. Delta Zeta doesn't end when we graduate. Anything special you would like to include about yourself? Donna: Ive been married for 9 years to my wonderful husband, Ryan, and have a very spoiled Pomeranian named Rusty. Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, I now happily enjoy the milder winters of Middle Tennessee. I love to cook and bake and do crafty things, and Im a voracious reader. I enjoy traveling, but Im not much of an outdoor person, unless it involves attending a football or baseball game, or spending some time on a boat. I love meeting new sisters and look forward to meeting many more through my work as the SAC. Heather H.: I am a high school art teacher and part time photographer. I love to paint and usually spend some of my summer teaching teen workshops in photography at Watkins College of Art. I have been married for 11 years and I have 2 doggies that serve as our children for the time being. Stephanie: I have been married to my amazing husband, Jerry, for almost 6 years. I have 3 wonderful step children ages 15, 13, and 11, and one of my own, a Delta Zeta legacy, who will be 2 this month. I am an accounting assistant for a small furniture business whos top customers are the universities located throughout the state. I recently relocated my family to Tennessee from Florida a little over a year ago and love being back! Heather T.: I have been married a little over two years. My husband, Bart, is in the Army and is stationed at Ft. Campbell. We have a one year old daughter, Emilyn.
