END OF A REIGN Mark Silvas first WXW Championship reign came to an end on October 23, when the man he won the title from, The Perfect Creation, won their no DQ match. It took the use of brass knuckles, a chair shot from Dalton Kelly and powder thrown in to the Beasts eyes for him to be defeated. An angry Silva chased Creation to the back following the match. SOUTH AUSTRALIA Snakepit Zak Sabbath defeated Man Mountain to become the new Snakepit Champion in Elizabeth on October 2. JMC became the new Friday Night Fights Champion at FNF #21 on October 15 after defeating Big Mike. Elite member Chris Spartan was stripped of the Adelaide Open Championship and fired from Snakepit by President, Max Profit at the second annual Pro Wrestling Swap Meet, following Spartan and Jimmy Scarlets loss to John E. VICTORIA MCW Melbourne City Wrestling (formerly Australian Championship Wrestling) won the best of five match MCW vs. Australia series 3-2 at Worlds Collide on October 16 after Mike Petersen defeated Jag Hartley Jackson following an F5 in the deciding match. NEW SOUTH WALES AWE Former WWF Hardcore and Tag Team champion, Hardcore Holly will be taking on the big man, Blakestone for the AWE Hardcore Championship at Turbulence on November 28. AWF This is AWF Wrestling - October 17, 2010 The tag team title reign of the Cornershop Connection came to an end at the hands of Party Trix (DJ Fusion and Illusionist). Scientific Robert Barnes defeated Mint Condition Mick Moretti to become new Young Lions champion. Tama Williams was successful in becoming the new Commonwealth champion. Powerhouse accidentally speared referee OJ Fitzpatrick. Tama hit Powerhouse Theo with a splash from the top rope. With Fitzpatrick still down referee Kebab came to the ring and awarded Tama the win with a fast count.

Photo: Neil Wells Newcomer, Mad Turk Hussain defeated the Samoan Warrior after Tama Williams came to ringside. Tama's cheering distracted Samoan Warrior allowing Mad Turk to get the win. After the match the Samoan Warrior was understandably annoyed. Tama whispered something in both guys ears and all three left the ring seemingly unified. 10 years of feuding came to an end with the faction vs faction main event match. This was an elimination match with the stipulation that the losing faction must disband forever. At the end of the match, TNT and Iron Jay Coles were left standing. This resulted in the Freakshow having to permanently disband. After the match TNT and Coles were attacked by Tama Williams, Samoan Warrior, Mad Turk, Diego, Masked Musa and Anubis. Tama took the microphone and announed that they had formed a new faction in the AWF and he called it The Multicultural Society. What effect will this new faction have on the AWF? PWA Red October - October 1, 2010 Bluey Bonza and Ahmed Iblis had a brutal match on September 3 at Into the Fire. Iblis was disqualified after the New Impact Players interrupted. Iblis and Bonza then turned on the Players. This resulted in a tag match between Iblis & Bonza and Mikey Broderick & Sean O'Shea. I

was very interested to see how Bonza and Iblis worked together. The two were on the same page and worked well as a tag team. Time will tell if these two can continue to work together. They have the makings to be a tag team force to be dealt with and will be entering the King of the New School tournament October 5 & 6 where the first ever PWA tag team champions will be crowned. After recently the A1GP championship at Battle Lines on August 6, Jorge Del Homos was injured. He tore his groin and could be off the shelf for quite some time. We all wish Jorge a speedy recovery. In the meantime, what will happen with the A1GP title if Jorge is unable to defend it? At the end of Into the Fire, Aequitas Ryan Eagles challenged Gene Kelly to a street fight at Red October. Kelly declined so Adelaide's Hartley "Jag" Jackson stepped up to the plate to meet Eagles for the first time. Eagles put the championship on the line. The two had a brutal match which included barbed wire draped over the turnbuckle, a table, thumb tacks, a stapler and lots of other weapons. The street fight took extra meaning as the two spilled out of the Liverpool Masonic Centre onto the street. They traded blows *****

and returned into the centre. Jackson pinned Eagles to become the new champion. What is to come for the championship?

Five Years Ago: November 12, 2005 - EPW: Re-Awakening IV The fourth annual Re-Awakening and the first to be held at the Venville Centre in Maylands. The Fallen Angel Azazal won the first ever steel cage match in EPW history over former EPW Champion, FN Carnage. During the set up of the cage, local band Antistatic played a small set of songs from their Still Life Portrait EP. South Australias Havok became the first Interstate wrestler to become the Invitational Champion defeating Shane Haste in the final. Haste had earlier defeated Richter and Devlin Reeves in his Semi Final, while Havok qualified for the final by getting the victory of Kiel E. Lectrifying and James Street. The EPW Tag Team Championships were declared vacant by EPW Board of Directors member, Jack Burbank, after the champions, The Bad Boys of Perth Wrestling (Davis Storm/Nate Dooley) drew with the Genetically Superior Team (Bobby BadBlood/Chris J. Lazareth). The card was headlined by a Two out of Three falls match between EPW Champion, Mikey and South Australias Jag. The champion retained the title two falls to one, after having to comeback from losing the first fall.

One Year Ago:

November 7, 2009 - EPW: Re-Awakening 8 In what is arguably the greatest show in the history of EPW, featuring spots that needed to be seen to be believed, bloodshed, injuries and the City of Joondalup nearly putting a stop to the show. ReAwakening 8 was a spectacle that not one person in the crowd could have been disappointed in.

Jonathan Wimbledon and Chris Vice became the number one contenders for the EPW Tag Team titles after winning a four way match when Dan Moore blasted his partner Chase Griffin from behind, giving Vice the opportunity to hit a tombstone piledriver and grab the pinfall on Griffin. Jimmy Payne lost at Re-Awakening for the first time to AZ Vegara after being hit with a kendo stick by a masked assailant, who turned out to be former friend Nate Dooley. Dooley blamed the arm injury he received during EPWs week long shows at Mirrabooka Square on Payne. The first ever Hardcore Shield holder was crowned when Gavin McGavin eliminated Marcius Pitt and KrackerJak at the same time in KrackerJaks Hardcore Battle Royale. The match was toned down from the initial idea, due to concerns from the City of Joondalup, as well as being the last appearance of Jarek Matthews in EPW before he returned to the US. Davis Storm became the Invitational Champion for the first time completing the EPW Triple Crown after pinning Shotgun Tyler Jacobs. Controversy ensued after the bout as Jay Taylor had tapped out in a STF put on by Damian Slater as the three count went down. In one of the most gruesome and brutal bouts in the history of EPW, Richter survived Bobby Marshall in a Last Man Standing match, after interference by the man then known as Jose Del Santo. Richter suffered a nasty cut to the face after a chair shot from Marshall, leaving a pool of blood on the canvas. The main event saw the EPW Tag Team Championships return home after six months, when the Victorian duo of Slex and Carlo Cannon were defeated by the hometown team of Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls in a Ladder Match.

three match series after Flashy Barry Hawkins declared that after Heritor lost the first two attempts at a match via count out and DQ, that a Aussie Tow Rope match would take place, with the two men tethered together. Heritor got the victory over Page. Crazy Train had his first one on one match gaining the victory of Sean Ravage. The Brothers of Construction made their last appearance in SHWA as a team with a win over The Muscle Militia duo of The Wraith and Pain. It was Logans last appearance for the company. The SHWA Championship Tournament continued with the Semi Finals. Flashy Barry announced the matches earlier in the night, putting Muscle Militia teammates The Wraith and Jarrad Slate head to head with the Wraith getting the win over the Militia leader with help from NC Viper. Wraith had try to give Slate the victory by laying down for the three count, before Flashy Barry, having a busy night, ordered to match to restart with NC Viper as the guest referee. In the end Viper hit moves on both and put Wraith on Slate for the win. The second Semi Final saw Mad Mike Massive advance over the Alpha and Omega, Jake Paragon in a hard fought big man battle, to set up the first SHWA Championship match at Ascension.

November 21, 2009 - SHWA: Super Awesome Wrestling Show 5000 SHWA continued on the road to their first anniversary show Ascension with the first Super Awesome Wrestling Show. The card opened with a reunited two thirds of Too Cool, Junior Fatu (Rikishi) and Brian Christopher stink faced their way to a win over the SoCal tag team, Rock Of Love. Orlando Jordan got a win over Mr. Ken Anderson after blocked a sunset flip attempt and getting the pinfall with his feet on the ropes. In his second last ever match, Uso Fatu (Umaga)

Ichi! Ni! San! WPWs resident puro referee, Toshio, counts down his top san moments, matches and events on a bi-monthly basis. The bi-monthly (not so) spectacular has returned! The San Count with Toshio is back to count down anything and everything to do with WA wrestling. This year we've covered many topics, ranging from all the different promotions and happenings in this state. In this edition I will be taking a look at our second annual WPW awards, concentrating on three different awards which will be involved in this years ballot. 1. TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR Tag team wrestling truly is a dying art all over the world, but in WA wrestling we've seen some exciting and epic tag team contests. Many duos are needed to be considered, but if I'd have to pick the best from each fed I'd come up with the Muscle Militia, $oldiers of Fortune, TMDK, Diamonds in the Rough, Chris Vice/Jonathon Wimbledon and Apocalypse as my top contenders to take this award. In SHWA, the Muscle Militia/$oldiers of Fortune rivalry has not only seen bad blood, but some outstanding matches too. Whether it be regular tag team matches or with tables thrown in the mix, this

feud has resulted in standout tag team encounters which has given nominations to both teams. In EPW, tag team wrestling has reached its peak, with some events being headlined by tag team matches. TMDK of Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls stole the first half of 2010 with their performances, and when Vice and Wimbledon won the EPW Tag Team Championship they have been dominant since. And although they haven't won the gold, Diamonds in the Rough of AZ Vegara and Damian Slater have proven themselves worthy of a Tag Team of the Year nomination. And finally in NHPW, the tag team which stands out in the promotion is comprised of Kabel and Mange, two of the biggest on the roster. Being involved in high profile contests on the NHPW cards also puts their name up as potentially the top tag team of the year (the duo also won NHPW Tag Team of the Year in April). The winner of this award will be the team which has impressed the audiences the most, by either accomplishment or skill/ability. For 2010, the WPW Tag Team of the Year is TMDK of Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls.

Slex and Carlo Cannon at Re-Awakening 8 in November, 2009, from defending against teams such as Davis Storm/Jimmy Payne and AZ Vegara/Damian Slater, this has resulted in TMDK being the WPW Tag Team of the Year. 2. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Photo: Jarod/SHWA From May 2009 to now there have been many promising upstarts who have stepped into the ring for the first time. The wrestlers nominated for this award may not be the most experienced on the roster, but they have brought everything they have to the table to win over the respective audiences. Here is the complete list of the nominees: One of those listed name will be awarded WPW Rookie of the Year, which will be the first of many accomplishments for the WA wrestling young gun who gains the most votes. Winning this award is quite difficult, as it is the category with the most nominations. For 2010, the following young wrestlers have been nominated: Crimson/Ash Lightning, Avalanche, Bad Medicine, CJ Cohen, Crazy Train, Dan Steel, Dorian, Felix Young, Flash Williams, Hayden Zenith, Kabel, Ryan Dangerfield and Sean Ravage. For 2010, the WPW Rookie of the Year is a man who debuted a short nine months ago, and that man is Dan Steel. Once Steel debuted, his rise was very evident, in his short career thus far he has defeated Big Mike from Snakepit Pro Wrestling (SA) and main evented against SHWA Champion Jarrad Slate.

3. WRESTLER OF THE YEAR There is no bigger prize and honour to be named the BEST wrestler in a company, and this is exactly what Wrestler of the Year means. There will be four of these awards presented to the winners, as there will not only be an EPW, NHPW and SHWA award but an overall Readers Choice Wrestler of the Year award (voted by all of you!). I could name names, but I would be rambling on forever, so instead I will list the nominees for each federation, as well as the winners of those respective awards including the Readers Choice Wrestler of the Year award. For EPW: Davis Storm, Jamie Jurah, Jay Taylor, Richter and Sebastian Sander have been nominated. For NHPW: Heritor, Jaxon James, Kabel, NC Viper and Percy T. have been nominated. For SHWA: Crazy Train, Jarrad Slate, The Wraith, Pain and Mike Massive have been nominated. For 2010, the winners are as follows: Davis Storm and Sebastian Sander (tie), NC Viper and Jarrad Slate. These four men have had a great year in their respective company, and thus have earned the right to be called Wrestler of the Year. And for the second annual WPW Readers Choice Wrestler of the Year award, goes to Jarrad Slate, a man who has continually improved throughout the year where we reached the pinnacle of his career, winning the SHWA Championship, as well as SHWA Wrestler of the Year for 2010.

Photo: Jarod/SHWA So thats San Count for another (bi) month and WPW awards for another year. Congratulations to all of the winners, and Ill be writing to you all again in January. *****

THE WOMEN BEHIND THE CURTAIN

A lot of work goes on behind-the-scenes, to bring fans what they see on a show night, and a lot of the time, its women who are behind the smooth running of the things that happen outside the squared circle, and they do this without getting as much recognition as the wrestling talent, but they are important all the same. Tez spoke to two of the hardest working women on the WA scene, Shell from EPW and Rebecca from SHWA. SHELL WPW: How did you get involved in the business and how long have you been in it? SHELL: Way back in 2001 when WA wrestling didnt exist, a group of friends got together and decided to put on a free wrestling show in Wanneroo. They needed someone to help them with selling t-shirts so I volunteered. Before you know it, its 2010 and Ive been heavily involved with EPW ever since. WPW: Were you a wrestling fan before you got involved? SHELL: No, Im sorry to say. Sure, I watched a few things on TV as a kid, but I never really got into it that much. WPW: What are your main roles for the promotion and what do you enjoy doing most? SHELL: I run everything front of house on show day and look after all of the event co-ordination leading up to a show, but I have an amazing support team that helps with all of this. I also have the extremely exciting (?) task of doing the bookkeeping/accounts for our business. Id have to say that the part I enjoy the most is seeing the looks on our fans faces as they watch an EPW show. It is very rewarding to see and I enjoy interacting with our fans. WPW: Has it at times been difficult working in a male dominated business? SHELL: At times it can be, yes, but Id like to think that I keep the boys in linesomewhat, (laughs). But seriously, I love the guys that I work with. WPW: With Re-Awakening 9 approaching. Is it an exciting time each year for you or is it added pressure due to the enormity of it? SHELL: In the lead up to Re-Awakening it can be quite stressful for all of us organized in putting the show together, but it is also a very exciting time. This show is a celebration of all that is Explosive Pro Wrestling and how wrestlers, staff and fans unite to enjoy one of the greatest nights on the calendar in Australian wrestling. ***** WPW: How did you get involved in the business and how long have you been in it? REBECCA: Through my husband. Around late 2007-early 2008, he became involved with a local fed and thats where my life in wrestling began. WPW: Were you a wrestling fan before you got involved? REBECCA: Yes. Have seen WWE in Melbourne and when Kane walked out that blew me away and I have always loved Kevin Nash. WPW: What are your main roles for the promotion and what do you enjoy doing most? REBECCA: I take the phone bookings which is great to do because I hear from all our fans. I also handle the seating and table arrangements; I run the concession stand and handle any needs the roster has. I enjoy taking care of the roster, they are a great bunch of guys and they are funny too. WPW: Has it at times been difficult working in a male dominated business? REBECCA: No, not for me. Its been excellent I have the best guys around me and they show me nothing but respect and I do the same. I have the best boss and he is willing to listen to new ideas and will tell me if he likes them or not, and the roster is the same. And I enjoy being the oldest there. WPW: We are heading towards SHWAs second anniversary with Ascension in early December. Is it an exciting time each year for you or is it added pressure due to being SHWAs biggest show each year? REBECCA: Yes, its exciting and I cant wait for the show. Its added pressure that I live for, to see the final result of a years worth of work finally REBECCA

being presented. While we always strive to make each show better then the last", there is always that sense of one last big push for the year. As an

organiser this can be a mixed blessing as far as the physical wellbeing of the wrestlers as we want to make sure that they dont spend Xmas in hospital and I want the show to be the best we can put on! ***** spectacle when we will have a number one contenders match for the tag titles. The match will be a three way tag match featuring the team of Shane Haste and Alex Kingston vs. The Future Dan Moore and AZ Vegara vs. the Team Allstar duo of Brad West and The Don Michael Morleone. With all we have seen this year in EPWs tag team matches, all three teams are going to put everything into this battle to get themselves a shot at Wimbledon and Vices tag team gold.

Photo: Tez Himself One half of the voices of Explosive Pro Wrestling, and the 2009 WPW Commentator of the Year, Mean Dean Olsen brings WPW all the latest on the EPW scene. The countdown to Re-Awakening 9 is on, and the anticipation is building as we get closer to Explosive Pro Wrestlings biggest event of the year. If you have been visiting epwperth.com, and lets be honest, you all should be, you would know of some of the match ups already announced, this month I want to take a look at these matches that will make RA9 a show not to miss. Following an amazing victory in the chaotic riot den match Team All Stars Sebastian Sander wants to continue his winning ways with a big win on the big show. This wont be so easy as he will go one on one with South Australias Rocky Menero. This is the first time these two have wrestled each other, as well as it being Meneros first time in EPW. With Sander wanting to continue to climb the ladder in EPW, Rocky is going to be looking to make an impact, and a name for himself here in Perth at the same time. All this should make for a fantastic contest when one of EPWs brightest young stars goes up against one of South Australias finest. Earlier this year, I reported in WPW about how competitive and intense the tag team division in EPW has been and since then it has been thriving with spectacular match ups showcasing the talent of all wanting the prestigious EPW tag team championships. At RA9 we are sure to see another

Screen Capture: Explosive Pro Wrestling Over the last few months we have seen a feud develop that has been impossible to contain and at biggest night of them all it will come to a head. Tyler Jacobs has shown a vicious streak we havent seen in a long time, and its all in the name of hardcore. Chase Griffin has had a great 2010 and is the current EPW Hardcore Shield holder, Jacobs has been claiming Chase is not hardcore at all and wants to show him what hardcore is all about. In what will be the biggest test in the singles career of Chase Griffin, he will go one on one against Tyler Jacobs in a street fight. The rules are out the door, everything is legal. Jacobs says he was hardcore before there was a shield and plans on giving Chase a lesson. Chase will be fighting to prove he is worthy of holding the shield and can take hardcore to levels Jacobs has never seen before. Readers of The Mean Scene would remember I did an article a few months ago on the Invitational Tournament. Well after an awesome number of matches it has finally come down to RA9 to decide who will win in 2010 and take home the

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 14

invitational trophy, as well as getting themselves a future shot at the EPW championship. The final consists of Hollywood Kiel Steria vs. The Golden Greek Marcius Pitt vs. Cash Money Carlo Cannon. Will we see the star of Steria continue to rise for him and his entourage? Will Marcius Pitt cement his dominance in EPW by winning the longest running tournament in Australia? Or will Victorias sleaziest export be getting a shot at the EPW championship in 2011? All three wrestlers have what it takes to win, but only one man shall walk away with their name forever in the history books of Australian wrestling.

Photo: Explosive Pro Wrestling It was a year ago at Re-Awakening 8 that Nate Dooley declared war on his former best friend Jimmy Payne. All throughout 2010 we have seen Dooley pull out every dirty trick in the book to end the illustrious career of Jimmy Payne, but has had no luck at all and received many beatings for his attempts. This has lead to Nate, one of the smartest minds in EPW issuing a $2000 bounty on the head of his old friend. Last month at Road to Glory we saw Bobby Marshall step up and make himself known as the man who plans to end Jimmys career and take home money. Long time EPW fans would have vivid memories of some of the epic battles

these two have had in the past and know whenever they face each other; its always bound to be a classic. This shall be no different, on EPWs biggest night; Marshall will take on Payne in an I Quit match. Two of the best in EPW will do battle and the match will only end when man screams the words I Quit. Will Jimmy once again spoil Nate Dooleys sinister plot, or will Bobby Marshall take the money and the career of Jimmy Payne? This is a match you dont want to miss. Finally the main event, the biggest match on the biggest night of the year. In a match we have all been waiting to see since Evolution. Jamie Jurah will have to defend his EPW championship against The Ironman Davis Storm. Since their epic time limit draw at Evolution, Jurah has done everything to avoid Storm at all costs, but on November 27, he has nowhere to hide. Davis Storm went through hell, and many competitors to become the number one contender and is finally going to get his shot at the championship he wants more than anything else in the world. With Jamies desperation to simply keep the title, not defend it, weve seen Jurah take all the shortcuts possible, willingly disqualifying himself if need be, just to stay champion. Davis Storm took Jurah to the limit at Evolution and still had more to give, it seemed Jamie was all about to give up before the clock ran out. All this plus the amount of head games The master of the Jurahverse has been playing and the hunger Storm has to hold the EPW championship and be the best in the company leads us to what is going to be a ferocious fight. If there last encounter is anything to go by, well see plenty of hard hitting offence, submission holds and chain wrestling at its finest, all with the EPW championship on the line. It all happens at EPWs Re-Awakening 9, November 27 at the Vasto Club in Balcatta. It will be the biggest wrestling spectacle of 2010, those of you who have been to a Re-Awakening before will know that no other night compares. If you have never been to one before, and call yourself a wrestling fan, then Re-Awakening 9 is where you need to be. I hope to see all of you there, until next time keep supporting local wrestling and stay tuned to epwperth.com.

Umaga, Rikishi, Lo Ki, Homicide, Steve Corino, Teddy Hart, Jack Evans, APA, Taker, Kane and so many more take sessions with us. You cannot beat that and I do not regret for one day that I chose the WSTC (Wild Samoan Training Centre) as the school I graduated from. Barbarian told me thats how I would feel after training there and he was right. When I did a show with him a few years later I reminded him that his talk helped me and was cool enough to hang with me some more. WPW: Making the trip to the States not long after being accepted to train at the Wild Samoans Training Academy in Pennsylvania, you became the fastest graduate of the school, beating former WCW/WWF star, Billy Kidmans record. What did it mean to you, and were you surprised to be able to pick up all the required wrestling skills so quickly? Mana: I was surprised the night I graduated because I thought I had more to learn, Afa said to me though teaching you the basics is easy - now is when you learn the business. I never put much thought into it till now because honestly you NEVER can know or have learnt everything in this wild business. Didnt mean much for me to beat Kidman - I was more honored I graduated and earned respect from Afa and my idol Headshrinker Samu. WPW: Your record has now been broken by a man you originally trained here in Perth, the current WXW Champion, Mark Silva. Are you proud of one of your students breaking your record and what do think the future holds for Silva? Mana: Not that its a difference but Mark was pre trained - I was a kid who was excited in first touching a ring canvas with no experience (laughs). Mark is custom built for WWE Television as it is today. Even at his size of 130kg of pure muscle he could dunk a basketball - thats a natural athlete in any terms. Mark is a good friend of mine and I am proud he is living the best part of this dream of Wrestling and cannot wait to see him do well at RAW later on this month. WPW: What was the experience like for you training under the former three time WWF Tag Team Champion, Afa the Wild Samoan and who were some of the other trainers at the school during that time? Mana: Brutal man. I teach similar to what we do at WSTC but not as nastyyet. We are building towards it at the NHPW Slaughterhouse Training Centre but honest if I rushed all of it at the students here they would quit. It wasnt a normal week if new person didnt show up and quit at our school, definitely people puking every week or fainting was a regular occurrence. I have a conscience I guess. Believe me there were some real monsters and natural athletes who couldnt handle the

Photo: World 1/Mana New Horizon Pro Wrestlings Mana, the Polynesian Warrior, brings Westside Pro Wrestling a monthly column in which he gives his thoughts on the current scene or talks with superstar friends from his past in the United States. Mana Interview Mana, the Polynesian Warrior has been wrestling throughout Australia and the United States for over 10 years, wrestling some of the businesses biggest names and breaking records. For the last three years Mana has made his home base here in Perth, Australia wrestling for various promotions and starting the Australian branch of New Horizon Pro Wrestling. After taking part in brutal battles throughout his time in the US, the injuries have finally caught up to Mana and he will be making his last appearance in a wrestling ring at NHPWs Final Chapter 2010. WPWs Tez caught up with Mana to chat about his career both here and abroad, as well as what the future may hold for the warrior from New Zealand. WPW: You initially got your foot in the door when you met former WWF/WCW star, The Barbarian at a Superstars of Wrestling show in late 2000. What advice did he give to you at the time? Mana: Well really, it wasnt a foot in the door because I was already in the process of moving to Allentown already. Talking to Barbs just reaffirmed it with his reassuring talk and attitude that The Wild Samoans is the best Training Centre in the world. You can go to other schools but unless you are there longer than six months and have people who are better than you to learn from, really youre not trained fully. We were lucky to have sessions with guys like Samu, Afa, Batista, Gangrel, Kidman, The Rock, King Kong Bundy,

training so I was just thankful I graduated and got my I Survived shirt from the best Training school in the World. WPW: You had a couple of WXW Championship reigns throughout 2004, the first one after a win over future WWE star, Gene Snitsky. What did the reigns mean to the career of Mana? Mana: To be honest, I knew Gene was going and they were grooming me to Spearhead WXW also after an incident and altercation people were not happy at WXW. Gene was one of my best friends and he was all for it. Taking it from him in his prime made it sweet, but man we worked for it (laughs). Gene hits hard, I hit hard, Gene is a lot stronger, I am stubborn. Not a good mix but we got through it. Funny story though because I did not tell the people I lived with at the time that I was winning it. I went home early without a key and was left in the porch to sleep on a freezing cold night Perks of being a Champ huh? (laughs)

with Milano AT, Claudio Castagnoli, Quackenbush and a few others. Working with Sweet & Sour Larry Sweeney was the highlight he broke my character many times in promos. He is a great guy and I have had some of my funniest best memories there with all these guys and people like Allison Danger, Chris Hero, Team Fist, Jigsaw, Shane Storm and so many of their great people on the roster. WPW: Was it a hard decision for you to return to Perth after so many years building your career in the States. Do you have any regrets? Mana: Yes and NoMy mind at the time was spent, my body was showing signs of depletion and I was lost. I had no more fight left to be honest but my heart was the only thing stopping me from pulling the chord. I only regret I didnt complete my list of dream matches. There are still three remaining but hey EVERYTHING else I did in my career has turned out perfectly and I would not swap my resume and experiences for anyone else. I didnt listen, I did it my way and I walked away when I decided too. I was always coming back to Perth, just ended up being quicker than I thought. WPW: In late 2007, you had a stint with EPW, even appearing at Re-Awakening VI. Did you enjoy your time in the promotion? Mana: Yes very much so, it was as close to American style fed than anywhere I have worked for in Australia. Very professional, talent to burn, loyal fan base and a good family environment within the company. They have earned what they are doing now so I am happy for them. Unlike other feds here I am not worried about taking out or competing with EPW or anyone else NHPW just wants to exist and perform for our fan base. Guys like Shane Haste, Bobby Marshall, Davis and a few others have that it factor. I would not be surprised if they take the next step at all.

Photo: Wikipedia WPW: You worked a few shows with a bunch of the TNA roster, including Jeff Jarrett, for NWA Cyberspace. Did you receive any offers for a tryout with either the WWE or TNA? Mana: Jarrett talked quite a few times with me at Cyberspace, especially after the matches with the TNA talent. I guess my shot at it was really dampened by the emergence of Umaga at around the same time. TNA were looking for originality and I immediately become a copy cat therefore rightfully so I was canned for opportunity. WPW: What were some of your favourite promotions the work for during your time in the States and what was it like to work for CHIKARA? Mana: Chikara was an experience and I am thankful to Mike for remaining friends with me even till now. I got to have matches that I enjoyed

WPW: November 2007 saw the debut of NHPW in Perth. Former WWE stars, Rikishi, Gangrel and Independent star Mercedes Martinez being the name International talent along with the best of local talent from EPW. Did you ever think you would be promoting NHPW shows three years down the track? Mana: My initial thing was NEVER to run NHPW here in Perth, All I ever wanted to do was book a couple of shows to say goodbye to friends and then hand over my numbers and contacts and get out of wrestling. This is the honest truthThings didnt work out and I now find myself doing this project and Im actually really happy with how its going. I honestly felt I had done enough to finish a few years ago but as destiny has panned out here I am running New Horizon Pro Wrestling Australia. WPW: In a recent edition of Warriors Words in Westside Pro Wrestling you counted

Westside Pro Wrestling

Page 17

down your top 10 list of opponents you have faced. What have been some of your favourite matches that you have competed in throughout your 10 year career? Mana: Abyss will always run side by side in my mindas well as Corino, Homicide and others I mentioned before. If you ask me my favorites in Australia, I have to say Cannonball Kris Taylor from SA, AZ Vegara was my first match here and was so cool to work with if not funny (laughs), Richter another one, KrackerJak and TNT. Working with my cousin Tapu was a blast as well for something thrown together last minute I was just happy and honored to allow him to be the first to pin me in WA as opposed to others who tried to book themselves to do it. I felt I made the right choice to someone who would appreciate it as opposed to someone who just wanted to brag about it when really they werent that good. WPW: After spending years in both, do you see any similarities between the independent scenes of the US and Australia? Mana: I will say that working with EPW was a stern reminder of a how good independent wrestling is here. EPWs product while I was there matched up to any promotion I was lucky enough to work for in America. Dave has done an exceptional job and its the premier fed in WA. NHPW are just developing but I am happy with where we are at and to compete with some of the best is what will help my guys live their dreams to the best that I can help them experience. NHPW will be here for a long time now, we just work hard and show our skills against the best then obviously thats going to help us become par with feds in America and keep things as close as possible to what is done in the states. WPW: How is the recently opened NHPW Slaughterhouse Training School coming along and as head trainer, are there any potential future standouts coming through that you are excited about? Mana: Yeah there are definitely a few that not only have the athletic ability and desire to be part of the wrestling business for years to come but they also WANT to do the extra work. With the school we are lucky enough to train four times a week (not including the extra nights some do) so I am thankful. Yeah as for prospects the Australian Pro

Wrestling scene will be meeting them soon. They have worked hard and soon will be vying for matches on the shows and pushing the roster for spots. WPW: A huge announcement was made by NHPW recently regarding 2011, involving a series of matches between NHPW and the biggest independent promotion in America, Ring of Honor. How did this come about? Mana: Its amazing what happens when you try things and the people you knowIts mainly the work of myself and Colt Cabana who produced this. Colt was a wonderful addition to the NHPW roster and had a huge impact on our fed when he came for Global Conflict. I put it forward that his next visit will be Team ROH

Screen Capture: New Horizon Pro Wrestling WPW: You are wrestling possibly your last ever match at Final Chapter on November 20. Taking on the man who succeeded you as Art of Fighting Champion, Tama Williams, and a man you know well from teaming as the Samoan Island Tribe in the States, Headshrinker Samu. When the final bell rings and the match is all said and done, what does the future hold for the Polynesian Warrior? Mana: A Huge Beam and Coke after the match (laughs). WPW: Thank you for taking the time to speak with WPW, Mana and we wish you good luck with the future.
