Minimize 2013 An NWA Hobbit SBG tournament.

+++ Introduction +++

I started this little tournament back in 2009. 5 years ago. I never thought Id be running the same tournament 5 years later. Minimize has always been about starting new armies, with its low points levels it has been a great gate way for players to get the core of an army built and then expand on it later. I have in past years seen players use Minimize as a milestone to get bigger armies done for other tournaments such as The Silmarilli and Conflict. With the release of the Hobbit, this is as good a time as any to go and get something new and try it out. Or for some of the older players get something finished that you have been saying youll do for the past 5 years. In closing Id like to welcome everyone to Minimize 2013 especially the 5 year veterans and to encourage everyone to bring along a mate because the best tournaments are those with lots of new people to meet. Cheers and happy painting, Travis Stevenson Tournament Organizer Minimize 2013 (Nunawading Wargames Association)

Special Thanks to Matt, Josh and Charles for their proof reading of this players pack.

Players are encouraged to show off their Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit knowledge by using quotes from the movie or books, or displays of writing that explain their army list in a creative way. +++ Rules Interpretations and Disputes +++

If players have any rule interpretation problems or are unsure of a certain rule please call for one of the tournament organisers. Judgements made by the organisers are final and will not be argued further. Players may not forfeit games; you owe it to your opponent and to the tournament to finish your games. Any player that leaves mid-way through a game will be disqualified and will be asked to leave the tournament. Victory points will calculated from time of forfeit. All Games workshops Erratas, FAQs and amendments will be in effect during the tournament. These can be found under the Shrine of Knowledge section on the Games workshop website. DO NOT ask other players for their opinion on a rule, as they have their game to play and you have yours. Any player caught interfering with other players games will be penalized accordingly. All Measurements will be made in INCHES Objectives count as impassable terrain and do not block line of sight in any way. All Rivers and water features will count as being shallow water as described on page 85 of the Hobbit rules manual. The passengers rule will not be used in this tournament. If any model falls into a deep pit or lava they will automatically be slain, remove the model from the table. Reconnoitre will be amended in the Following Way: The game will end at the end of the turn in which a player no longer has any models left on the table. From that point work out victory points. (Remember a player automatically loses if all their models have been Slain). Models that move off the board in Reconnoitre do not count as slain but do count towards your force being broken. The Goblin Scribe will be amended in the following way: In the scenario Reconnoitre Goblins that are brought onto the table from the Goblin
9|Page

Minimize 2013 An NWA Hobbit SBG tournament.

Scribes Always more where they came from special rule, MUST be moved onto the table via the controlling players table edge. If the Gobin scribe is in range of the Magical power fury. Do not roll any dice, instead the Goblin Scribe automatically brings D3 models onto the table. Note: The main reason for the Reconoitre change is to not give Goblin scribe an auto win as could bring models onto the board and immediately move them of for victory points. Note: As fury grants auto pass courage tests, if the goblin scribe uses fury to auto pass the courage test from his Always more where they come from special rule. He doesnt roll any dice, meaning he hasnt generated a total to compare to his special rule. In this case he will just automatically bring on D3 goblin warriors, as per the secondary part of the Always more where that came from special rule. As some boards will included woods, woods will follow the following rules: 1. Any model shooting into a forest will have to pass an in the way test this also includes models shooting at other models who are in the same wood. 2. If a model is touching the outside edge of the wood, they do not need to take an in the way to shoot out, and they still count as having an in the way between them and other models. 3. For a model to benefit from being in a wood they must have their base fully inside the wood. 4. Models that have their base wholly or partially in the wood count as moving at half speed. The Spider Queen, Shelob, all models with the Fly special rule and Giant Spiders, movement special rule will be modified in the following ways: 1. None of the above models may end their move on a building or similar terrain feature that causes them to be balanced on that terrain feature. 2. They must have their base on the ground (in relation to the table) when they enter a combat. Design Note: The main reason for this rule so that we dont have people running the spiders up a wall and attacking on the way down. This is to prevent models being vertical when they engage in combat and players arguing where their base starts and ends. If you have any queries e-mail me or ask me on the day.

+++ Scenario Section +++

Scenario 4: Battle Brothers (2v2)
Layout: As set up by the tournament organiser. Each Player will be teamed up with another player in this scenario. When a condition refers to a team then it refers to both players. 8 Objective markers are placed onto the battle field (2 from each player).Before Deployment but after sides have chosen there table edges each team will place there objective onto the table. To place objective markers onto the battle field each team rolls a dice. The team with the highest dice roll places an objective anywhere in there deployment zone but no closer than 6 to a table edge or 12 to another objective. Their opponents then place the next objective anywhere in there deployment zone but no closer than 6 to a table edge or 12 to another objective. The teams then alternate placing objectives until both teams have placed 4 objectives each, according to the restrictions noted earlier. Starting Positions: Each player on each Teams roll a D6 the Team with the highest combined score chooses one the deployment Zones. They then select a Warband in one of their forces a roll a D6. One the score of 1-3 the warband must be deployed within 12/28cm of the centre line of the board. On a score of 4-6 the models from that warband can deploy anywhere in the deployment zone. Regardless of the dice roll, no model can be deployed further than 6/14cm from the captain of its warband. When this has been done, the opposing player chooses one of his warbands and rolls to place it as described above. Players then alternate until all warbands have been deployed.

12 | P a g e

Minimize 2013 An NWA Hobbit SBG tournament.

Initial Priority: Priority for the course of this scenario will be worked out by each player rolling in a D6 and adding each teams dice scores together. The Team with the highest result obtains priority. Priority, otherwise works in the normal way. Objectives: The Game lasts until the end of the 10th turn or at the end of the turn in which 1 player is wiped out, at which point, the Team that has scored the most victory points wins the game. If both Teams have the same number of victory points, the game is a draw. Victory points are scored for the following: Your team score 3 Victory points for each objective that your team has destroyed. Your team scores 1 Victory point for each objective that you have scored batter points on. Your team scores 1 Victory point for each of your opponents that are broken at the end of the game. You score 1 Victory point for causing 1 or more wounds on an enemy leader (wounds prevented by a successful Fate roll do not count. If you kill an enemy leader, you instead score 3 Victory points. (As this is a doubles game this objective can be claimed once for each opposing leader)

Special Rules: Hasty Alliance: Each player calculates their own forces break point. In addition warriors may only benefit from Stand Fasts! provided from their forces heroes. Burn rick, cot and tree: Each objective in this game has a Defence of 7 and 2 wounds. If a model wins a combat whilst in base contact with an Objective he can chose to Strike at the Objective or the enemy model. Objectives automatically lose combats and cannot be spear supported. Bonus Objective: Only one player on each Team can achieve this bonus objective. Bonus objectives do not count towards victory points to win the game. Rivalry!: Keep track of each kill your leader acquires throughout the game. If at the end of the game your leader obtains more kills than your team mates leader you achieve this objective. This Objective is worth 4 Battle Points which will be added to your tournament score after the game.
