SELF CENTERING FOUR JAW CHUCK SYNOPSIS

In our project Self centering four jaw chuck is used to tight the one particular jaw. The stepper motor and screw rod arrangement is used to centering the one jaw. The stepper motor is controlled by the microcontroller unit. The microcontroller board is having three buttons. There are

The stepper motor shaft is coupled to the screw rod by suitable arrangement. The screw rod shaft is coupled to the 4-jaw chuck. This shaft is rotated by the stepper motor for various numbers of rotations with respect to the setting.

INTRODUCTION
This is an era of automation where it is broadly defined as replacement of manual effort by mechanical power in all degrees of automation. The operation remains an essential part of the system although with changing demands on physical input as the degree of mechanization is increased.

Degrees of automation are of two types, viz.

Full automation. Semi automation.

In semi automation a combination of manual effort and mechanical power is required whereas in full automation human participation is very negligible.

Need For Automation

Automation can be achieved through computers, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, etc., of these sources, pneumatics form an attractive medium for low cost automation.

The main advantages of all electronic automation systems are economy and simplicity. Automation plays an important role in mass production. For mass production of the product, the machining operations decide the sequence of machining. The machines designed for producing a particular product are called transfer machines.

Automation is the most important things in factory design. Automation plays a vital role in mass production of a product, the machining operations decides the sequence

of machining. The machines designed for producing a particular product are called transfer machines. Electronic Automation is a specialized activity for a modern manufacturing concern. It has been estimated that about 60-70% of the cost production is spent in material transferring activities.

NEED FOR AUTOMATION:

Reduction of labour and material cost

Reduction of overall cost Increased production Increased safety To reduce the inspection time Reduction in fatigue Improved personnel comfort

WORKING PRINCIPLE

There are three signals are given to the microprocessor 89C52 (control unit). This pulse signals are received from switch button. These three signals are given by the three buttons to the microcontroller unit.

At starting time stepper motor is in OFF condition. The bush buttons signals are given to the pin number 12, 13 and 9 of Microcontroller IC through high pass filter and inverter IC. This high pass filter is used to eliminate the high frequency signal due to external unwanted signal. In our circuit simple R-C high pass filter circuit is used. The zener diode (5.6 Volt) also used to cut off the high voltage signal from the input signal. The Vcc signal are giving the high output signal and this high signal is change to low signal by Inverter (NOT gate) IC. The pin number 12, 13 of microcontroller is multifunctional pin. It is used as a port or external interrupt. In our project the pin number 12, 13 as used as and external interrupt. The stepper motor is connected to the microcontroller pin p2.1, p2.2, p2.3 and p2.4. The stepper motor having 4 coils and these coils are energized by the microcontroller unit.

The microcontroller is giving the control signal to the stepper motor through stepper drive unit. These output signals is depends upon the input signal of the microcontroller unit so that the stepper motor working. The two way switch is used to changing the direction of rotation of the stepper motor.
