Aspirations - Ejaculatory prayers

An ejaculatory prayer is a secret and sudden lifting up of the soul's desires to God, upon any emergency that may occur in providence. One may engage in this prayer by a simple thought darted up to heaven, or by words uttered in the mind, yet so as the voice cannot be heard, as we read that Hannah did, 1 Sam. 1:13. It helps us to maintain fellowship with God, without any interruption of our lawful callings. It is also a means to repel sudden temptations, and to dispose the heart for a more solemn performance of the stated duties of prayer and praise in the season of them. Pope John Paul II, in addressing the psalms, has said that ancient monks used parts of the psalms as brief prayers "to release a special 'energy' of the Holy Spirit." The Pope added that this use of the psalms is known as 'ejaculatory prayer' -- from the Latin word 'iaculum' that is 'a dart' -- to indicate concise phrases from the psalms which they could 'let fly' almost like flaming arrows, for example, against temptations. Some Ejaculatory Prayers: 'Jesus, Mary, Joseph, be my Salvation.' 'Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' (Known as The Jesus Prayer) 'My God & my all!' 'Jesus, Mary, I love You. Save souls.' 'God, come to my assistance; Lord, make haste to help me.' 'May the Holy Cross be my light.' (Jubilee Medal of St. Benedict) 'Be gone, Satan! Suggest not to me thy vain things. The cup thou profferest me is evil; drink thou thy poison.' (Jubilee Medal of St. Benedict) 'Comfort me, Mother of God !' 'May each created object, O Lord, be to my eyes a glass, wherein 1 may behold Thy countenance, and be admonished of Thy presence' 'Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners!' "All for Thee, dear Lord." 'My Jesus, have mercy!' 'The Word was made flesh.' 'My Jesus, my Love! Let Your will be done in me.' 'Jesus, I trust in thee' 'Make me all Thine before I die.'

'Stay with us, O Lord' 'May, O Lord, the light of Thy countenance shine upon us' 'Jesus, help me.' 'My God, I offer you all my work' 'My God, I love you' 'My God, I wish for Thee alone, and nothing more.' 'May my only happiness be to please Thee, O Infinite Goodness.' 'Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have confidence in Thee, boundless confidence for everything.' 'I give You my will, my liberty; dispose of me as You please.' 'Thou art omnipotent; make me a Saint.' 'May I die rather than ever offend Thee again.' 'O God of love, give me love.' 'Lord, who am I, that Thou shouldst desire so much to be loved by me?' 'Thou didst give Thyself all to me; I give myself all to Thee.' Aspirations to the Most Blessed Virgin Mary: 'Mother of God, remember me.' --Saint Francis Xavier 'O Virgin and Mother, grant that I may always remember thee.' --Saint Philip Neri 'Holy Virgin Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me.' 'O Lady, grant that Jesus may never cast me off.' --Saint Ephrem 'O Mary, may my heart never cease to love thee, and my tongue never cease to praise thee.' --Saint Bonaventure 'O Lady, by the love which thou bearest to Jesus, help me to love Him.' --Saint Bridget 'O Mary, be graciously pleased to make me thy servant.' --Saint Jane de Chantal 'O Mary, I give myself to thee without reserve; do thou accept and preserve me. ' --Saint Mary Magdalen de Pazzi 'O Mary, abandon me not until death.' 'Hail, Mary, my Mother.' 'Holy Mary, my Advocate, pray for me.' 'In thee from my whole heart I have placed my hope.' -----St. John Damascene 'It is not possible, O Lady, that thou shouldst abandon him who has placed his hope in thee.' --St. Bernard 'Thou hast only to will our salvation, and then it is not possible that we should not obtain it.' --St. Anselm 'Hail, Daughter of God the Father; hail, Mother of God the Son; hail, Spouse of God the Holy Ghost; hail, Temple of the whole Trinity.'

Aspirations of Love to Jesus Christ --by Saint Alphonsus De Liguori, Doctor of the Church (Spiritual Practice: Cultivate the habit of often using the name "Jesus," in silent prayer. When you get up in the morning and retire at night, invoke His Holy Name. And during the day, learn to associate whatever you are doing with a moment's prayerful aspiration, pronouncing the word "Jesus." If you do this, you will not only grow in your belief that Jesus is indeed God who became man, you will experience the spiritual power that is available to those who call upon Him in faith.) My Jesus, Thou alone art sufficient for me. MY love, do not permit me to separate myself from Thee. When shall I be able to say, "My God, I cannot lose thee any more?" Lord, who am I, that Thou should desire so much to be loved by me? And whom shall I love, if I love not Thee, my Jesus? Here I am, Lord; dispose of me as Thou pleases. Give me Thy love; I ask nothing more. Make me all Thine before I die. Eternal Father, for the love of Jesus Christ have pity on me. My God, I wish for Thee alone, and nothing more. O my Jesus, would that I could be entirely spent for Thee, as Thou did spend Thyself entirely for me! If I had died while I was in sin, I could no more have loved Thee; now that I can love Thee, I will love Thee as much as I can. To Thee do I consecrate all the remainder of my life. I wish only, and I wish in all things, that which Thou does desire. When I see Thee for the first time, my Jesus, may it be with a look of mercy. May I die rather than ever offend Thee again. Thou will not leave me, I will not leave Thee; so shall our love endure in this world and in the next. I should be too ungrateful, O my Jesus, if I loved Thee but little, after so many graces. Thou did give Thyself all to me; I give myself all to Thee. Thou loves those that love Thee. I love Thee; do Thou also love me. If I love Thee but little, give Thou me the love Thou requires of me. What has Thou not done to oblige me to love Thee? Make me conquer all things to please Thee. Accept the love of a soul which has offended Thee so deeply. Show me the immense good Thou are, that I may love Thee exceedingly. I desire to love Thee exceedingly in this life, that I may love Thee exceedingly in the next. I hope to love Thee for all eternity. O Eternal God! Oh that I had always loved Thee! Oh that I had died rather than have offended Thee! I give Thee my will, my liberty; dispose of me as Thou pleases. May my only happiness be to please Thee, O Infinite Goodness. O my God! I rejoice in that Thou are infinitely happy. Thou are omnipotent; make me a saint. Thou has sought me while I was fleeing from Thee; Thou did love me when I despised Thy love; abandon me not, now that I seek Thee and love Thee. May I this day give myself wholly to Thee. Send me any Chastisement, but deprive me not of the power of loving Thee. I thank Thee that Thou gives me time to love Thee. I love Thee, my Jesus, I love Thee; and I hope to die repeating, "I love Thee, I love Thee." I desire to love Thee without reserve, and to do all that I know to be pleasing to Thee. I love Thy good pleasure more than all the pleasures of the world. I accept all the troubles that may happen to me, provided I love Thee, O my God. O my Jesus, that I could die for Thee, as Thou did die for me! Oh that I could make all men love Thee as Thou deserves. O will of God, Thou are my love. O God of love, give me love.

O Mary, draw me all to God. O my Mother, make me always have recourse to thee. It is for thee to make me a saint. This is my hope. St. Philip Neri's Prayers: My Jesus, do not trust in me. My Jesus, I have told thee that if Thou dost not help me, I shall never do any good. Do not trust in me, my Jesus, because I shall never do any good. What can I do, my Jesus, to do Thy will? I have never loved Thee, and I wish to love Thee, my Jesus. My Jesus, if Thou dost not uphold me, I shall fall. Virgin Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me. I shall never love Thee if Thou dost not help me, my Jesus. My Jesus, I wish to do nothing but thy most holy will. O my Jesus, grant that I may never offend Thee. My Jesus, if Thou wouldst have me, clear away all the hindrances which keep me from Thee. I do not know Thee, my Jesus. I distrust myself, but I trust in Thee, my Jesus. Give me the grace, my Jesus, not to love Thee out of fear, but out of love. 'Virgin Mother.' The Word was made flesh to free us from the flesh. I no longer know what to do or say, if Thou help me not, my Jesus. My Lord, I wish to learn the road to heaven. For Thy most holy passions sake remember not, Lord, my iniquities. O my Blessed Lady, give me grace always to be calling Thee to mind.
