First tested in the Jobo Field, near Morichal, Venezuela, La Vlvula Orinoco was developed for the huff and puff cyclic steam stimulation common to the region. Field personnel spend a lot of time removing downhole equipment and the application of diluents for viscosity reduction needs improvement. Working with the engineers and field personnel of PDVSA and Logoven, a tool was designed to address these problems. La Vlvula Orinoco has Xaloy X-800 bimetallic barrels and X-8000 bi-metallic pistons for extreme corrosion and abrasion resistance and has been certified by the metallurgical specialists at Universidad Simn Bolvar

Modeled in CFD
At the heart of the pump, Computational Fluid Dynamic modeling optimized the design of the inlet chamber. In the CFD solution shown here, velocity vectors are colored by concentration of crude oil in the diluent to illustrate the mixing enhanced by the helical spring.
