Indian Household Wastes - Categories and their Management

Prepared Sep 2012: This document lists possible waste generated in an Indian household , their categorization as per latest BBMP directives . The document aims to provides guidelines' to citizens in segregating their house hold waste Wet Waste: Most of the wet waste should be handed over within 24hrs without using plastic cover . This can be composted Sanitary Waste: The waste of this category should be neatly wrapped in newspaper and marked with red cross. Most of these categories will be handover along with Wet waste if Wet waste is not being composted . If wet waste is being composted, then these should be handed over Dry Waste: To be cleaned and stored. Handed over to recyclers on regular intervals Hazardous Household Waste: DO NOT MIX IT WITH OTHER WASTE. If broken or very small, please wrap in newspaper.
