Recently Khun Somyos, the managing director from Atomcad (Baltec's contracted drafting office in Lamlukka, Bangkok) visited

Melbourne. During his visit, Khun Stirling and I discussed employing a third-party engineer to work from Atomcad's office in the role as outlined below. Baltec thought that you may personally know an engineer (or engineers) who would be suitable for this role. Or alternatively, if you could suggest some effective ways to advertise for this role in Thailand (eg. Via newspapers, recruiting websites, etc). We also wondered if it would be possible for this engineer to be employed under the umbrella of your company- of course Baltec would be paying all of their wages and expenses. Here is the proposed concept of the Design and Drafting process for Baltec and AtomCAD. Design & Drafting Process BALTEC Design & Drafting Process ATOMCAD The main change will be the addition of an engineer (to be supplied by Baltec) to be based at the AtomCAD office in Lamlukka. So it will be a similar role to when Khun Glenn was working at AtomCAD, with the addition of being able to speak Thai language (and also be quite good at speaking English). Note that Baltec will need to provide some training to this engineer to become familiar with Baltec designs, etc. The engineer's main roles will be: (1) to interpret and implement design information received from Baltec (2) to provide detailed component engineering design from which the drafting team will produce workshop fabrication drawings (3) conducting and documenting detailed engineering reviews of completed workshop fabrication drawings, which will then be used by the drafting team to revise drawings as required. Ideally, the engineer will possess the following qualifications, experience and abilities: (1) Qualified Structural Engineer (2) Experience with fabrication (3) Can be located to work from Atomcad office (Lamlukka, Bangkok) nmost of the time (4) Experience with structural steel (5) Some drafting experience (6) Good proficiency in both written and spoken English (7) Is willing to travel occasionally (overseas if required) (8) Some experience working at site The intention is that detail design issues can be decided and resolved more quickly for AtomCAD, and also provide feedback for drawing revisions more quickly. We feel this can be achieved effectively if there is an engineer located in AtomCAD office who can communicate face-to-face. And it will also enable the Baltec office to focus our resources more on high level design. Baltec's current timeframe is to start interviewing prospective candidates for the role of engineer by April 2013.
