University of Delhi
The course is offered at three levels, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. The Basic Course is for those who have a preliminary knowledge of the English language, and cannot use it even in every day, familiar context. The Intermediate Course is for those who are fairly confident of using the skills of listening, speaking, writing and reading for different purposes at a relatively higher level. The Advanced Course will help students to use the language in academic contexts, i.e. respond critically to texts/situations in written and oral form and to employ the necessary tools and strategies to undertake UG/PG studies satisfactorily. Those students who attended the Basic/Intermediate Course offered by the University of Delhi and obtained at least Grade C overall are eligible for the next higher level course. For those who wish to join the Intermediate or Advanced Course without doing the Basic Course, there will be a test to find out their level so that they can be placed at the appropriate level. There is no test for joining the Basic Course. B. Duration: 7 January to 21 April 2013, 2 hours three days a week, with a total of 80 hours including assessment.

Eligibility: This course is open only to the students of University of Delhi, currently enrolled in undergraduate, post-graduate or research programmes, including certificate courses and courses at the Campus of Open Learning. Course Fee: Students admitted to the Course will have to pay Rs.1000/- (Rupees one thousand only) for general category and Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) for OBC, SC/ST category in cash to the Administrative Coordinator at the Centre. The fee is non-refundable. How to join the course: Forms can be obtained from the office of the Central Institute of Education, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 on all working days from 10:00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. or can be downloaded from our website http://cie.du.ac.in/ or www.du.ac.in. Forms can also be obtained at the College(s) where the course is being offered. For the CIE Centre , on-the-spot admissions will be made on a first-cum-first-served basis from December 18-21 from 2-5 p.m (Room No. 110, CIE Annexe, Academic Research Centre, Opposite Khalsa College, North Campus). Completed applications should be submitted along with the fee and a copy of a valid ID card. For admission to the course at other Centres, contact the Administrative Coordinator at the centre during office hours on all week days. Certificate of Proficiency: On the basis of students performance in a test of English Language Proficiency administered at the end of the course, a Certificate of Proficiency will be given. Attendance: Attending classes and participating in all the activities is important. Students should attend all classes to make full use of all the opportunities the course will provide in order to improve their English. There is no provision for an attendance certificate. Code of Conduct: Only students who have enrolled on the Course should attend classes. Others will be asked to leave the course instantly; no further explanations will be entertained. Students are required to follow the rules pertaining to Maintenance of Discipline (Ordinance XVB) of the University.
