Slide 2 A neural network is mans crude way of trying to simulate the brain electronically.

Neural networks are made up of many artificial neurons. An artificial neuron is simply an electronically modelled biological neuron. How many neurons are used depends on the task at hand. Slide 3 Application areas include system identification and control (vehicle control, process control, natural resources management), quantum chemistry, [ 7 ] game-playing and decision making (backgammon, chess, poker ), pattern recognition (radar systems, face identification, object recognition and more), sequence recognition (gesture, speech, handwritten text recognition), medical diagnosis, financial applications (automated trading systems), data mining (or knowledge discovery in databases, "KDD"), visualization and e-mail spam filtering Slide4 Artificial neural networks have also been used to diagnose several cancers. An ANN based hybrid lung cancer detection system named HLND improves the accuracy of diagnosis and the speed of lung cancer radiology. [ 8 ] These networks have also been used to diagnose prostate cancer. The diagnoses can be used to make specific models taken from a large group of patients compared to information of one given patient. The models do not depend on assumptions about correlations of different variables. Colorectal cancer has also been predicted using the neural networks. Neural networks could predict the outcome for a patient with colorectal cancer with a lot more accuracy than the current clinical methods. After training, the networks could predict multiple patient outcomes from unrelated institutions

Slide5 What is Artificial Neural Networks replacing? ANN is replacing the conventional computer approach of algorithmic methodology which primarily follows a step by step set of instructions given to solve a problem. Unless these are followed in the sequential order the problem cannot be solved. It is storing data and formulating patterns to enable critical business assessments for business strategy & decision making. It is replacing the way the business community had stores it collection of data and had begun to store enormous amounts of raw data with the expectation that the useful information would enable critical business assessments for business strategy & decision making Slide 6 Medicine An area where the Neural network app is making extensive progress is in the biomedical systems. Current focus is on modeling parts of the human body and to recognize diseases from various body scans (such as cardiogram, CAT scans, ultra scans etc). As noted, neural nets ability to learn by examples does not require detailed instructions on how to recognize a disease. The system must be given a set of examples that represents the various types of disease and the quality of the examples data that is loaded is what makes this process generate an effective and efficient set of results. Slide 7 Business for Forecasting and predictions Neural Networks in Marketing Developer are using the relational database for new & improved data mining technology (real time) and provides scoring information for all types of data. These include features such as when to offer customer

new products and which of these customers are most likely to respond to this type of solicitation. This is accomplished by observing patterns that are useful for predicting the targeted behavior of it customer base. For advanced neural networks only a few dozen transactions are needed to accurately predict on the basis on who has previously accepted a similar offer and which have rejected offers. Neural Network in Credit Evaluation According to Fair Isaac, the traditional approach to fraud analysis is generally tackled in a hindsight mode. Fraud is not detected until the scheme has been completed the participants have long disappeared. The neural network technology is being used to solve the fraud problem. The predictive analysis and trend detection Neural Network in Forecasting(Predictions) For the statistical analysis applications, neural networks provide features such as the automatic generation of lag, moving averages, slopes and trend variables. Removal of trend data, variances stabilization, autocorrelation and charting showing actual, validation, predicted, trend and residual value, slope and trend variables. This application & other that are similar with neural nets are intelligent demand planning in areas of operations management, predictive analytics temporal data mining and theoretical research.

Slide8 The artificial neural network technology is gaining resurgence, and while most corporations investment in this technology is proprietary and are not readily willing to disclose their development activities in this area. These are examples of other usages of enabled by the neural net analysis and to provide predictive results.

Slide 9 Neural networks are increasingly being used in real-world business applications and, in some cases, such as fraud detection, they have already become the method of choice. Their use for risk assessment is also growing and they have been employed to visualise complex databases for marketing segmentation. This boom in applications covers a wide range of business interests from finance management, through forecasting, to production. The combination of statistical, neural and fuzzy methods now enables direct quantitative studies to be carried out without the need for rocket-science expertise Slide 10 Preventing and detecting fraud Neural networks can identify patterns of behavior that have led to fraudulent outcomes in the past. When a similar pattern is repeated, the neural network software flags the event for investigation. As more patterns are identified and additional fraud outcomes are confirmed, the neural network software will begin to learn these patterns and gain human like intuition. Slide 11 Establish credit worthiness Current credit ratings use a small number of predetermined factors to establish an individuals credit worthiness. Neural networks are able to look for hidden patterns of behavior that may not otherwise be evident to determine credit worthiness. Again, a neural network has the ability to learn and improve its ability to predict over time. Slide 12

Predicting default or bankruptcy Neural networks have the ability to sort through a large amount of data, including customer credit and payment transactions. Based on this data, the neural networks can look for patterns of behavior that have led to default or bankruptcy outcomes in the past. As the neural network software continues to scan customer behavior patterns, the neural network can flag a customers account when a concerning pattern of credit or payment behavior emerges, allowing the company to intervene before the customer defaults or files for bankruptcy. Slide 13 Marketing applications Neural networks can look at consumer purchase behavior over time to identify purchase patterns. Tracking customer purchases, the neural network software can predict what the consumer is likely to purchase next. This will allow marketers using neural networks to target customers who are likely to purchase their products next, giving them a competitive advantage. Slide 14 NeuralTools works where you work in Excel. Because NeuralTools uses the same interface as Excel, you can get up to speed quickly. With NeuralTools, you get the best of both worlds: Excel ease-of-use, combined with robust, accurate predictions. Slide 15 NeuralTools Easy applications, fast learning and good intergation as most companies already use Microsoft.

MATLAB Neural nework Toolbox requires MATLAB. This is easy to learn and integrates with major operating systems, but it requires additional training. Slide 16 For now, only large firms are able to reap the benefits of artificial neural nets In the future, personal computers may be integrated with artificial neural networks Could artificial neural networks make unpredictable situations a thing of the past?

Slide 17 In conclusion: There are many possible business applications for neural networks. Any application that could benefit from tracking past behavior patterns, even hidden behavior patterns, and using them to predict future behavior is a candidate for a neural network. We only explored a handful of possible uses here today.
