I am a student of the Faculty of Law and Management studying Law and Management and actually on year three of my course. Throughout the years on campus, I have been involved and had active participation as: Member of Law Society in Year 1 Moot Court Winner Ex-AIESECER Member of Student at Work (SAW) PRO of Youth Revival Society

Being hardworking, trustworthy, passionate, comprehensible and reliable, my objective is to represent the voice of each student on the Council in the view of making our University a better. Striving for excellence and enhance university students education are my priorities.

Role of the Council


It is the executive body of the University and shall have the custody, control and use of the common seal of the University. Responsible for the management and administration of the revenue and property of the University, and shall have general control over the conduct of the affairs of the University Responsible for general policy decisions, finance, offers of appointment and other administrative matters.

Powers and functions of the Council


To enter, vary, carry out and cancel contracts on behalf of the University

You must be the change you wish to see in the world Mahatma Gandhi

To institute Faculties or Units of the University and to determine the constitution and structure of such Faculties or Units
Provide for the welfare and recreation and include provision and maintenance of grounds, buildings and equipment To determine fees to be charged to students To choose the crest and color of the University To award Honorary degrees

Programme
I believe the quality of education is possibly the single most important factor in a students decision to study at University of Mauritius. From my experience at UoM, we can certainly make improvement and I want to be an active part of that improvement process. My main aim is to provide greater student support and guidance and help to improve their education experience at UoM. I pride myself on being honest, open, and straight talking.

Develop and Optimise Infrastructure:


Acquire new land and construct new buildings (library/parking space/residential/ lecture rooms/canteen/labs) in UoM Campus. Seek funding for lab equipment and research. Subscribe to more academic e-databases like Pro Quest, IngentaConnect. Improve the equipments and facilities of gym.

Knowledge Development:
Develop a well coordinated job and placement center at UoM with stakeholders. Prevent introduction of tuition fees. Negotiate with government to provide subsidies to students buying high-tech equipment used in the course of their studies. - Negotiate with representatives of laptops and brand names to get laptops at reduced price, tablets for UoM students with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research & Technology. Promote and provide innovative and multiple modes of delivery - Resource based, video conferencing, teleconferencing. Seek more funding for the University Needy Student Fund. Promote excellence in learning and provide tailor-made courses for the labour market of Mauritius (New undergraduate and post graduate courses to cater for the labour market in 5-10 years). Equip the university with modern mechanisms for communication: computer networks, multimedia, content portals and electronic libraries. Dissertation and thesis on the library website. Introduction of Student Support Class for low pass rate modules.

Others:
Negotiate with Companies for CSR Funding for activities and projects for students. Create and build liason with the Prime Ministers Office, all relevant Ministries and the University of Mauritius. Encourage faculties to develop plan to increase lecturers abilities, student satisfaction with learning resources.

Enhance security and lighting around the University.


Resurfacing of roof for waterproofing around the University. Accelerate infrastructure development on the campus. Promote use of green technologies in UoM. Holding events in cooperation with our other universities. Upgrading and improving the first-aid department of the University to better standards. A National Voice: Let's put UoM back on the map!

Enrich Campus life experience:


Restructure and improve university cafs with enhanced facilities. More community and cultural learning and development programs and provide relevant training and professional development activities. Reward student participation in extracurricular and recreational activities

Lets make UoM to be proud of; one that is respected, united, representative and committed so that students dreams are back within reach. LONG LIVE UOM
