Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Introduction Caring has been considered as the essence of nursing. It is believed that caring enhances patients health and well being and facilitates health promotion. Nursing education has an important role in educating the nurse with adequate caring abilities. Caring behavior is the simple actions that can take to show patients kindness and respect, give them privacy and make them feel comfortable. Patients receive caring behavior when providers respond to their needs promptly and provide reassurance and into on ways to help themselves. Based on some research study is needed to explore nursing students level of caring behaviors in different cultures, as well as evaluation studies of innovations in curriculum and teaching methods to improve learning in relation to cultural competence and caring concepts. St. Paul University Philippines is one of the leading nursing schools in region II. This school is guided by its quality policy, St. Paul University Philippines provides quality Catholic Paulinian education in a caring environment which the students try to exhibit in their hospital and

community duties. As a catholic school, this institution is a place where future nurses are shaped through the holistic way. In line with this, the researchers focused on the caring behaviors of 2nd-4th year nursing students of St. Paul University Philippines considering the institutions quality policy. With regards on this matter, the researchers chose the institution as part of their subject especially the nursing students to highlight the level of caring they possess in the area. Knowing the level of caring behavior, the researchers would be able to help in improving their KSA. Also, the institution will be aware regarding their competency, with this they would be able to perform better. Hypothesis There is a significant difference among the caring

behaviors used by the second year to fourth year nursing students of Saint Paul University Philippines. There is a significant difference on the level of KSA

demonstrated by the second year to fourth year students of Saint Paul University Philippines. Significance of the Study The study aims to determine the effect of Saint Paul University Philippines quality policy to the caring behaviors of the second and they fourth year in nursing the students. area. This is to identify the development of each year level with regards to their KSA and how perform Also, Saint Paul University Philippines will be aware on the ability of the students and be

to

improve

of

education

provides. Scope and Delimitation This study will be conducted at the School of Health Sciences of Saint Paul University Philippines. The participants involved would be all the second year to fourth year nursing students of the said University. The study involved caring behaviors among the nursing students and the ways they use in the area.
