OUR GLOBAL CAMPUS

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading global university centred in Asia.
NUS started out modestly as a medical college with 23 students in 1905. At the time, people from all over Asia were drawn to Singapore, an important shipping port and a bustling metropolis at the crossroads of Asia. Singapores rich history and diversity, coupled with its strategic location in the heart of Asia, have shaped NUS growth over the last 100 years. Today, our University spans three campuses at Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah and Outram, with a community of more than 37,000 students. At NUS, we set out to make a difference through our unique brand of transformative education, high impact research and dedicated service. We aspire to influence the future by offering students from Singapore and beyond an outstanding global education enhanced by Asian perspectives.

DIVERSE LEARNING EXPERIENCES

An NUS education is a multifaceted experience that addresses the aspirations of young people today.
We strive to transform students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines into confident global citizens through a well-rounded and holistic university education. Our programmes nurture intellectual curiosity and cultivate academic rigour, ensuring that our graduates are well-placed for a fast-paced, borderless world. Programmes such as the Student Exchange Programme, Double Degree and Joint Degree Programmes allow our students to attend some of the worlds best universities and train them to thrive in cross-cultural settings. Flexible educational pathways, often incorporating entrepreneurship training, inject a crucial global dimension into their education. The NUS Overseas Colleges Programme is one such example.

At NUS, our students have every opportunity to expand their social and cultural horizons and make life-long friends. Apart from the widest possible array of cultural, sporting and artistic activities, we also offer social and community-based programmes within Singapore and beyond. Our new educational hub, University Town (UTown), epitomises our vision of a vibrant campus ecosystem. Designed as learning communities with small personalised classes, UTowns residential colleges are a first for Singapore. This convivial set-up encourages students and professors to interact outside the classroom, and together with sporting and cultural facilities, promotes a richer, more holistic NUS experience. The Universitys latest initiative, the Yale-NUS College, opening in mid-2013, will offer students the experience of a liberal arts education and approach to learning: mentor-teachers will invite every student to think broadly, question fundamentally, analyse rigorously, debate thoroughly, and imagine creatively. It will be a unique and different learning experience based on the best practices and traditions of Yale University and the NUS, contextualised for Asia in the 21st century. REAL-WORLD RESEARCH
As a research-intensive university, NUS actively engages in research endeavours that make a tangible difference to Singapore and the world.
Our strategy is to focus on high-level research over a broad base from which several peaks of excellence naturally arise. We strive to strengthen research impact by tapping into synergies across boundaries. Regular collaborations with government, industry and leading academic partners ensure that NUS research consistently addresses real-world issues. To better respond to the interconnected challenges facing Asia and the rest of the world, we have combined the strengths of our Faculties, Schools and Research Institutes to build up five integrative clusters: Finance and Risk Management, Biomedical Sciences and Translational Medicine, Ageing, Integrative Sustainability Solutions, and Asian Studies. One of our latest research initiatives is the NUS Energy Office, which was established in 2011 to advance the capacity and depth of energy research and development in Singapore.
