Mode
of
conducting
the
Survey
The
survey
covered
13,050
school
students
(7th,
8th,
9th
and
10th
standards)
spread
across
Pune,
Mumbai,
Hyderabad,
Lucknow,
Patiala,
Bhatinda
and
Nellore.
The
survey
was
conducted
in
physical
form
with
printed
questionnaires
being
handed
over
to
the
students
in
class
during
regular
school
hours.
Participants
were
gifted
specially
designed
bookmarks
based
on
the
theme
of
"Cyber
Security".
The
survey
was
conducted
from
October
to
December,
2012.
Some
of
the
interesting
findings
of
the
survey
Some
children
have
14
Facebook
accounts
and
some
have
7
email
accounts
42%
feel
it
is
not
a
crime
to
use
pirated
software
in
India
67%
children
reported
having
started
using
Facebook
before
the
age
of
10.
26%
kids
reported
having
more
than
500
Facebook
friends
36%
kids
did
not
know
their
Facebook
friends
in
real
life.
82%
reported
having
received
vulgar,
offensive
or
abusive
emails
or
Facebook
messages.

19% of the survey participants said they spent less than 60 minutes online everyday. 63% of the survey participants said they spent 60 to 90 minutes online everyday. 18% of the survey participants said they spent more than 90 minutes online everyday. Most children reported using the Internet for either school- work or for downloading songs.

Facebook
was
the
most
popular
social
networking
site
amongst
the
survey
participants
with
86%
of
them
saying
they
used
it
the
most.
Twitter
came
in
second
at
8%.
Google
+
and
Orkut
came
in
next
at
3%
each.
