POSITION TITLE The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Program Coordinator, Multicultural Programs

PROFILE of the UNIVERSITY

UNLV is a comprehensive research university of approximately 27,000 students and 2,800 faculty and staff dedicated to teaching, research, and service. The university has internationally recognized programs in hotel administration and creative writing; professional degrees in law, architecture, and dental medicine; and leading programs in fine arts, sciences and education. This position exists to provide and market opportunities for students to participate in diversity and cultural programming that are consistent with student development and cultural identity theory based learning outcomes. Is responsible for creating, implementing, marketing, and assessing multicultural program initiatives as well as developing and implementing cross-cultural programming for all students with an emphasis on multicultural competencies. Serves as the direct advisor for Students Organizing Diversity Activities (SODA). SODA implements, coordinates and evaluates campus-wide cultural events and traditions such as Of the Month Cultural Celebrations and other awareness programs. Assist in the creation and advising of a peer diversity training and advocacy organization. Serve as the chair of the campus wide planning committees for Latino/a Heritage Month, Black History Month and Womyns Herstory Month. Responsible for supervising student staff and two graduate assistants. This position works to enhance a growing sense of community by fostering students awareness and appreciation of differences on a highly diverse campus. A masters degree from an accredited university, a minimum one year of relevant experience as a graduate assistant or post-bachelors experience with event planning, group/individual advising, multicultural programming, diversity education/training required. Successful candidates will have an understanding of student development theory. One year post-masters university multicultural programming, diversity education/training experience and experience programming around multicultural topics preferred. All successful candidates will have the ability to assess student needs, value a high degree of student contact, interact effectively with a wide diversity of people, have excellent interpersonal skills, communicate well in verbal and written form, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment. Experience with outcomes assessment and analysis is preferred.

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
