TOUCHSTONE JOB DESCRIPTION New View Project Coordinator Grade: Hours: Holidays: Responsible to: NJC Scale SO1,

pro-rata 20.5 hours per week 28 days per annum rising to 31 days after 2 years service plus (8) statutory holidays, pro rata Community Development Manager

This post is time-limited up from 1st April 2013 upto 25th July 2014 (16 months) It will be necessary to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends BACKGROUND Mental health problems are common, but nearly nine out of ten people who experience them say they face stigma and discrimination as a result. This can be even worse than the symptoms themselves. Time to Change is Englands biggest programme to put an end to this. Touchstone has received a grant from the national Time To Change campaign to combat such stigma and discrimination among Black African and Black Caribbean communities in Leeds, working in partnership with black majority churches and Leeds Mind Inkwell Project. The New View Project is an important part of the national Time to Change programme, and the Coordinator will mobilise the project and deliver the outcomes. We will support BME volunteers who have experienced mental health problems have one to one conversations about their experiences, working with black majority churches. We will develop two permanent pieces of art combating stigma for display in partner churches. The New View Project Coordinator will be required to work with partners including Leeds Mind, Roscoe Methodist Church, The Zimbabwe Fellowship and other black majority churches and community groups. 1. 1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To recruit and support at least 12 African and African Caribbean people who have lived experience of mental health problems to volunteer on the project, so that they are able to have direct conversations about their mental wellbeing in their communities.

To provide support to the volunteers through training, supervision, personal development planning and review, and through linking them to external health and wellbeing services. To design and deliver a training course for volunteers which equips them with the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to talk openly about their experience of mental health problems. To ensure that at the end of the project each volunteer has an exit strategy geared towards further involvement in their local community. To facilitate a project steering group comprising members of the public with mental health problems, members of partner organisations and volunteers. To document the stories of volunteers and facts about mental health and disseminate this to black majority churches, and other places as appropriate, for use in sermons and other awareness raising. To liaise with partner churches, other black majority churches and black majority community groups to ensure the project meets its outcomes. Working with partners, to put into place opportunities for volunteers to have face to face conversations with members of the public about their own experiences of mental wellbeing. To support session artists from Leeds Mind Inkwell Project to work with members of the public and volunteers to produce pieces of art for display in partner churches.

To market the New View Project in appropriate ways to ensure that volunteers come forward and members of the public engage, including ensuring that information about the project is accessible to people whose first language is not English. 11. To be responsible for the monitoring of the project and its outcomes including the number of social contacts and its impact that this has. 12. To support and develop the ability of people and organisations to participate. 13. To record any learning from service delivery and share this with Touchstone, partners, Leeds' Time to Change Development Group, regional and national forums where appropriate. 14. To undertake the day to day administration of the project, including organising session fees and expenses. Ensure partners understand the terms and conditions of session fees (including receipts, evidence and outcomes) and collating such information. 15. To create and maintain monitoring and recording systems to capture project and organisation information.

GENERAL To work at all times as part of a team. This includes working with other staff, attending team and staff meetings and developing a teamwork approach to all aspects of the organisation's work. To maintain records as required by the Community Development Service Manager. To work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the Service, including undertaking out of hours and weekend work as required. To supervise volunteers, students, work placements on a daily basis, including supporting them to carry out tasks. To be inducted, supervised, performance monitored and appraised in line with the organisations performance management policies and procedures. To be responsible for personal learning and development where appropriate and undertake training, both mandatory and optional, to increase knowledge, skills and awareness To provide monitoring information and reports as part of funding and organisational requirements and for the Board of Trustees as requested by Touchstone management. To participate in the further development of the service and organisation in conjunction with the Team Manager and Senior Management Team, as requested. To be aware of and employ the general practices of Touchstones Health and Safety policy and ensure these are adhered to at all times To operate within the aims, policies and practices of Touchstone at all times and to be committed to and promote the organisations Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory policies. To ensure information is dealt with in accordance with Touchstones policies around Confidentiality, Communications, Internet, Email and Telecommunications and steps are taken to ensure that confidential information is secure e.g. service user data. To provide information about Touchstone as a whole and in particular the Faith Project to people/agencies interested in the organisations work.

2.13 The post holder will be part of the New View Project, but may be required to carry out similar duties in other parts of Touchstone to contribute to the effective operation of the organisation.
