HONDA CR-V

11

The Honda CR-V is a compact SUV, manufactured since 1995 by Honda. It was loosely derived from the Honda Civic to satisfy a public demand for a sport-utility vehicle from Honda. There are discrepancies as to what "CR-V" stands for, Honda sales literature in UK reportedly made references to "Compact Recreational Vehicle", other Honda references (including the official Honda Japan CR-V Fact Book and Honda Worldwide) cite "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle". It is produced in both four-wheel drive and front-wheel drive, with availability differing by market. Earlier, It was imported from Japan. Now, Indian plant is planning to produce the vehicle in its own plant.

INNOVATIONS AND TECHNOLOGY

11

i-VTEC (intelligent- Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control)

i-VTEC regulates the opening of air-fuel intake valves and exhaust valves in accordance with engine speeds. By regulating valve opening to match engine speed, the agile i-VTEC engine adjusts its characteristics to realize both superior power and low fuel consumption. At low speeds the valve opening is less, so output can be satisfied by less fuel and high speed valve opening increases satisfying the load.

11

VCM (Variable Cylinder Management)

With its flexible use of cylinders, the unique VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) technology virtually gives you three engines in one car. During start-up, accelerating or heading uphill, it will fire all six cylinders to give you the maximum power. Once you've reached cruising speed, it would automatically drop down to four cylinders, or even three, if it is an easy cruise. This maximizes both performance and fuel economy.

To achieve the same quietness and smoothness, as when running on all six cylinders, new Active Control Engine Mounts (ACM) and Active Noise Control (ANC) systems have been designed to complement the VCM technology.

11

IMA

A hybrid vehicle is an automobile powered by an engine assisted by an electric motor. In a Hybrid vehicle, the electric motor assists the engine to help reduce fuel consumption in standing starts and accelerations. This means that compared to a regular car of the same size, a hybrid is cheaper to run.

Furthermore, electric motors deliver maximum torque from zero rpm for powerful, exhilarating standing starts and added power for acceleration. Combining fuel efficiency, and driving performance with environmental performance through reduced fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions: that is what hybrid vehicles are all about.
