TRIPLE POINTE CHURCH TEACH US TO PRAY...

LUKE 11:1
Thank you for the privilege of sharing /IHOP 8 yrs / Family - Intro Thank you to Patrick and Kristen for entrusting my wife and I to come and share. It is my belief that you have an unusual Pastor here at Triple Point who has postured himself to not only veiw the Body of Christ in the region but to serve that Body. As I said my wife and I have been doing this ministry for over 8 years and but we have both been involved longer in city wide Prayer movement. Provoked by a simple question. What does it take to attract a sustained move of God in a region? The answer to that question in the Biblical and Church record always lands on a simple reality. United and Sustained Prayer ultimately what we are talking about is the Kingdom. Prayer for Patrick and Kristen.. If you would like to open your Bibles to Luke 11:1 - I want to talk to you this am about one of my favorite topics found in this request by one of Jesus disciples. Lord Teach us to Pray. Biblical Intercession when I got a hold of this it literally changed my prayer life. Luke 11:1 It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of his disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples. Here in this often overlooked verse. Jesus disciples had spent years with Him. Of all the things they could have asked. Jesus I have seen you do that healing thing, or the incredible way you teach by telling a story, or how you do evangelism. This is Jesus inner circle and they ask one question - Teach us to Pray. Why? Perhaps they had seen this direct connection in His dynamic relationship with His Heavenly Father - likely. Now Jesus first words in reply are powerful in verse 2 when you pray... Was Jesus saying this because He is implying if you are really good followers of me you pray? It is more likely in the reality that as young Jewish boys this is so deeply a part of their culture. Yet by this point Prayer has become even a bit of show - in fact Jesus tells the story of the two men who went to pray in Luke 18 primarily to reveal that there were those who had come to trust in how well they could look and sound in front of others. So Jesus gives simple instruction that strikes at the heart of what moves Prayer from words into what it was intended to be: A Real Relationship with a Real God. No one denies that Prayer is a good thing....its the veiw of Prayer that can be a problem. Prayer Changes Things....old bumper sticker statement that has been around for years. Problem with this statement is that its not Prayer Its God who changes things.....when we begin to embrace prayer as a tool...a means to accomplish what we want....we miss the point. Prayer changes us....its God who is our Great reward whether the circumstances shift or not. He is enough. Especially when we talk about something as important as Prayer It is critical that we are not coming to God with Prayers that are ill focused or misdirected but in agreement with the very heartbeat of Heaven. This is part of why Jesus said pray this way Lk 11:2 Father, hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come.

And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 1

The truth is if we are honest that Earth has directed much of our Prayer life And our Prayer agenda - things that leave us feeling Distance.... Jesus instruction was the complete opposite - begin with Heaven! Luke 11:2 But rather a Real Relationship with a Real God.

I would submit that one of the most critical needs of the Church in this hour is that we get a vision of Prayer that is in alignment with the Truth of Good news of Gods heart for us in this hour! It is both liberating and invigorating to our prayer life. Teach us to Pray.... Luke 11 2 in Matthew 6 Our Father The Power and Weight of those words are all to often lost in their familiarity - to comprehend those two words is to capture the good news of the heart of the gospel and reveals the very heart of Prayer! 1 Where do we begin? How about at the beginning... - Gen 1, and 3 - Adam and Eve 9 (Chair) Gods passion to make man - out of Desire - Partnership - let us make man in our image and let him rule....have dominion. Amazing Gods heart was and is about this partnership It is difficult to portray in weak words the power of the change that occurred in Gen 3 ....saw ....took it....ate it..... It was more than an apple it was the breaking of the intentional partnership of Heaven with Humanity in Gen 1 Destiny in our life is not about success or doing well.... True vision of your life Gen 1 Partnership with God. Gen 3 The Change that occurred went into the generations....it affected every human soul...it affected creation....this perfect union of Gods provision and partnership not just marred but completely broken. Sin Sickness death and separation..... According to Genesis 3:4 it was but a moment and the weight of that revelation came to Adam and Eve...their eyes were opened and they knew...Rom 5:18 by the sin of the one man all were made sinners.....all affected.... One word that sums up the mess that occurred the most....DISTANCE All that man was created for was devastated System of law only served as a reminder of .. Distance......and this my friends unfortunately where the starting and ending point is for many beleivers.....Beloved Salvation is so much more than forgiveness! Now it should be well Noted.... Virtually every religious system of the World attempts to address the affects of this Brokenness and Distance.... 2. Thousands of years later....but in reality at the foundation of the world....( Rev 13:8, 2 Tim 1:9) We find another man in the Garden....the last Adam...God in the flesh ( 1 Cor 15:45 ) Jesus! And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 2

Later on a Cross where Jesus took the full weight of sin, its punishment and the entire system that was connected to dealing with mens sin and took it away..... Romans 5:18-19 through the sin of the one...many were made sinners...but through the obedience of the one - Jesus the many were made Righteous! 2 Cor 5:21 - he made him who knew no sin to be made sin on our behalf in order that we might become....the righteousness of God in Christ....Why.....Eph 1:4 Righteousness : the sum total of all that God commands and approves. As such it is not only what God demands, but what He gives to man, and which is appropriated by faith; Biblical Intercession is about Agreeing with the Truth of the Light of the Gospel! He came to seek and save that which was lost......not just some lost sheep. Gen 1 Partnership No Distance from God or from man Partnership 2 Cor 4:4 however says that unlike Adam and Eve....the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that hey might not see the light of the gospel..... Picture of this in Rev 12 - Day and night accuser stands....accusing God and man.......He is not good and you are not qualified! 1. Our Father - in the light of the gospel....Tells you the Truth about The Father Is as powerful as Gen 3:4...when Adam and Eve....said dude....were naked....we are ashamed... Accusation.....YOU ARE ALONE......Where is God...in all this..... LIAR The light of the gospel.....I am not Alone Light of the Gospel Matt 7:7 Good Father Ex 34.....this is His heart He is not mad! He is not distant... All the barriers and the distance has been removed and we have been invited in! Gen 1 Eph 1:4....He choose you....before the foundation of the world..... 2. Our Father - in the Light of the Gospel.....Tells you the Truth about You! Accusation......Guilty!.....who do you think you are.....? LIAR........ John 1:13....gave them the right to become.... YOU have ACCESS.....not distance! Basis of my coming in prayer is not my personal gauge...but what He has done beloved....Heb 4:18....let us draw near....

And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 3

I approach God on the basis of all that you have done....Heb 10:19 with Confidence -let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith....because of what Jesus you have done. All the things that would have disqualified you have been removed. Col 2 - while you were dead...he made you alive...he took the certificate of debt...decrees that was hostile and against us .... took it out of the way...nailing it to the cross ( vs 14-15 ) disarmed rulers and authorities....mad a public spectacle of them triumphing over them...by the CROSS! New Law at Work...! Romans 3:27....not works....Law of Faith Romans 8:1 Law of the Spirit set me FREE......

3.. Our Father - in the Light of the Gospel Tell the Truth about Needs....... Accusation.....you don't have anything to say ..... Often thought of Jesus as one who is talking to Father in my behalf.....Call in a Favor Jesus....is looking out for me..... Christ's always living, we understand his always living in the body; for it is thus that he is an affectionate and sympathizing High Priest, who, in his intercession, pleads the merit of his death to procure the salvation of all who come unto God through him. ..... some of the ancients were of opinion that his continual intercession consists in the continual presentation of his humanity before his Father, because it is a continual declaration of his earnest desire of the salvation of men, and of his having, in obedience to his Father's will, made himself flesh, and suffered death to accomplish it. The Intercession of Jesus is NOT about my sins....ahhhh It is about His Death! It is about pleading the merit of His death.... Hebrews 7:21-28 Think of this....permanently....continuously....forever a High Priest He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him.... ohhh mannn Heb 8:1 We have such a High Priest....... Man if you get this point - you will never pray the same.... raised up and seated with Christ....standing next to my brother Jesus.... Agreeing with the merit of His death over every need I see. Changes....everything. Matthew 6.....as it is in Heaven....let it be upon the earth.....oh man!! How.....by Praying the Scriptures...... The Basis of Intercession is the Merit of Jesus death The Focus of Biblical Intercession - The Kingdom! The Invitation - participation in His redemptive glory being visibly lived out upon the earth....oh man great time to be alive! And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 4

Close 2 Cor 4 the Message
4 1-2 Since God has so generously let us in on what he is doing, were not about to throw up our hands and walk off the job just because we run into occasional hard times. We refuse to wear masks and play games. We dont maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we dont twist Gods Word to suit ourselves. Rather, we keep everything we do and say out in the open, the whole truth on display, so that those who want to can see and judge for themselves in the presence of God. 3-4 If our Message is obscure to anyone, its not because were holding back in any way. No, its because these other people are looking or going the wrong way and refuse to give it serious attention. All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they wont have to bother believing a Truth they cant see. Theyre stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the Message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God well ever get. 5-6 Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; were proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you. It started when God said, Light up the darkness! and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful. 7-12 If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. Thats to prevent anyone from confusing Gods incomparable power with us. As it is, theres not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that were not much to look at. Weve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but were not demoralized; were not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do; weve been spiritually terrorized, but God hasnt left our side; weve been thrown down, but we havent broken. What they did to Jesus, they do to ustrial and torture, mockery and murder; what Jesus did among them, he does in ushe lives! Our lives are at constant risk for Jesus sake, which makes Jesus life all the more evident in us. While were going through the worst, youre getting in on the best! 13-15 Were not keeping this quiet, not on your life. Just like the psalmist who wrote, I believed it, so I said it, we say what we believe. And what we believe is that the One who raised up the Master Jesus will just as certainly raise us up with you, alive. Every detail works to your advantage and to Gods glory: more and more grace, more and more people, more and more praise! 16-18 So were not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. Theres far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we cant see now will last forever.

And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 5
