3. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd

Services:

In order to contribute significantly to India's growing need for power, we started power generation over a decade back. In the beginning, it was a captive power facility using waste heat from the rotary kiln boilers and the coal rejects of the washery. Over the years however, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) and its subsidiary Jindal Power Ltd. (JPL) are producing about 1400 MW power through both captive and commercial facilities. JPL has set up India's first mega power project - the 1000 MW Thermal Power Plant in Tamnar, Raigarh, Chhattisgarh which was commissioned in a record time - beginning in September 2007, all four units (250 MW each) were commissioned within a span of nine months. The company has also established a 258 km, 400 KV Double Circuit transmission line from the Tamnar, Raigarh plant to the PGCIL substation at Raipur for distribution of power throughout India. To meet the plant's consumptive water requirement an 18 m high dam over the Kurket River has been built, 25 km away from the project site. Besides this, JSPL is operating a 358 MW captive power plant on the premises of its steel plant in Raigarh and 600 MW power plant at Dongamahua, district Raigarh. In furtherance to the cause of protecting the environment, adopting eco-friendly processes and promoting clean energy, JSPL last year embarked on a plan to set up a 24 MW wind energy project at Satara in Maharashtra. The company has the vision to enhance its power generation capacity to 15000 MW over the next ten years. Strategy: Jindal Power Limited (JPL), a company promoted by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL), has been contributing significantly to the growing needs of power in the country. JPL has set up India's first mega power project in the private sector at Tamnar, Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. The company has invested approx. Rs. 4310 crore for setting up a 1000 MW thermal power plant which commenced commercial operation of the 1st unit in December 2007 and all four units (250 MW each) within a short span of nine months. The fuel supply of the plant is met through its captive coal mines. About 6.9 km conveyor pipeline has been set up for transportation of coal between the mines and the plant. The company has constructed a 258 km, 400 KV Double Circuit transmission line from the plant to the PGCIL sub-station at Raipur through which power can be sold anywhere in India. 25 kms

away from the project-site, an 18 m high dam over the river Kurket has been built, to meet the plant's water requirements. Jindal Power Limited plans to add a 2400 MW Thermal Power plant to the existing capacity of the 1000 MW thermal power plant at Tamnar at an estimated cost of Rs 13,410 crore. The company has already placed an order with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for supply, erection and commissioning of 4X600 MW Boiler Turbine Generation (BTG) package. The existing 1000 MW power plant was set up with four Turbine Generators of 250 MW each, also supplied by BHEL. JPL has also signed a MoU with the State Government of Jharkhand to set up a 2640 MW thermal power plant. In the Hydro sector, JPL has signed agreements for 6100 MW projects in Arunachal Pradesh in a joint venture with the Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Limited (HPDCAPL) on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer basis. Our vision is to establish a presence in other forms of power generation such as gas, wind, nuclear and solar with a focus on hydro and other forms of environment friendly renewable energy sources.

The latest addition to the list is the commercial district at the Bandra-Kurla Complex and major commercial and residential complexes in the suburbs.

Network of Reliability In power supply, grids ensure stability. Tata Power's power systems in Western India are interconnected with the Western Region Grid, including the State Electricity Boards of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Tarapur Nuclear Power Station. Competitive Tariffs Tata Power enjoys an unrivalled cost-advantage in electricity production which it has achieved by regularly upgrading technology to the state-of-the-art and a unique mix of hydro and thermal generating capacity. The Company happily shares this advantage with its customers, in terms of competitive tariffs, major beneficiaries being direct consumers as they pay the lowest tariffs in Mumbai. Consumer First
The Company's dedicated Consumer Service Group, with its office at Technopolis Park, Andheri, is always at the service of the customers. It provides services for new connections and also extends technical assistance to consumers on energy conservation and other electrical support services to help minimize energy costs.

5. Reliance Power Strategies: Reduction of Cost of Power Generation This is done by pursuing economies of scale, securing favorable financing and sharing resources among our various power projects and with our affiliates. Ensuring Fuel Supply Securing adequate supplies of fuel is critical to the success of a power project. Proactive steps taken to ensure access to sufficient coal reserves domestically and globally by investing in additional overseas opportunities that are a strategic fit with the business. It has secured fuel supplies for the entire coal-fired portfolio, and continues to strive to control the entire supply chain to ensure continued and uninterrupted availability and thus enable cost control. Focusing on Power Deficit Regions It intends to locate power projects and enter into off-take arrangements in power deficit regions that typically support higher market-wide tariffs. It continues to concentrate in offtake arrangements on the Western and Northern regions of India, which will comprise the bulk of power demand in India. It also intends to focus on merchant off-take sales in these

two regions to derive better returns on power generated from projects. Establishing an Optimal Mix of Off-take Arrangements It continues to pursue an optimal mix of long and short-term PPAs to minimize the risks and maximize returns for shareholders. For power projects situated closer to load centers, It has entered into a mix of long and short-term PPAs to maintain a balanced portfolio. For power projects located in other locations, It intends to continue to focus on long-term PPAs. Further, It will continue to maintain a significant portion of merchant power in the company portfolio to take advantage of favorable prices in the electricity spot market. Targeting Additional Revenue Sources It is actively pursuing opportunities to target additional revenue sources, including by selling carbon credits. Sasan, Krishnapatnam and Tilaiya power projects will be eligible for the CDM benefits as a result of the supercritical technologies.
