An example where technology is used to support curriculum. The SmartBoard was introduced to all classrooms in our schools in 2007.

the classroom or educational setting where this technology is being used: Wendy Meadows classroom. First grade teacher in her 28th year in the classroom. She currently teaches a higher level/gifted group of 22 students. Interview with the educator who is responsible for this learning situation to answer the following questions: 1. Identify the setting (level, number of students, area, demographics, etc.).
Level: 1st grade Number of students: 22 Topics taught: Math, Science, Social Studies Demographics: 16 girls, 6 boys, 18 white, 2 black, 2 other

2. Explain how the technology is used to support the curriculum. The SmartBoard technology is used to keep the lessons interactive and technologically upto-date. When we use workbooks, we can do them together or refer to them in large scale on the SmartBoard. There are unlimited games and activities as well as educational videos available as well. If it can be on the computer, it can be shown and used on the SmartBoard. 3. What differences have you seen in the learning of the students because of this integration? The students are different now than they used to be. Before we had SmartBoards and computers in all the classrooms, students didnt have computer access at home either usually. There were video games but they were completely separate from the learning atmosphere. Now, we integrate technology into almost every lesson. Students at our school have come to expect it and tend to really enjoy it. They stay interested and want to participate. When new students come in and they are from less technologically advanced districts, they are amazed and immediately captivated. 4. What sort of support issues has the educator experienced? (in-service, lack of software, equipment failure, maintenance, etc.). The worst day is when a bulb blows out on the SmartBoard or the internet is down. Fortunately, this is rare. Since I taught before all these advances I just pull out some old school things and keep going. Other than that, we are very fortunate. We have some great technology support.
