This course aims to assist students in developing their four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing concerning various subjects. Students will practice listening to lectures and conversations as well as skimming and scanning through articles and stories in order to restate the main ideas and specific information in discussion and writing. They will also learn to effectively express their knowledge, creativity, feelings and opinions in a speech and presentation as well as in a well-organized paragraph, essay, plot, article, report and letter. Students are encouraged to continue their language learning and use English for communication, study and professional purposes throughout their lives. Course Objectives To understand and use English language structure and grammar appropriately To capture the main ideas and specific information from the lectures and audio files To employ reading techniques and gain the new information and vocabulary from the readings To be able to carry conversations on a variety of topics with proper pronunciations and collocations To be able to give a speech and a group presentation in public To write a well-organized paragraph, essay, article, report or letter on an assigned or selected topic To apply the acquired knowledge and language skills learned in class to real-life situations

* Attendance will be recorded 16 minutes after the official start time. A student who is seated thereafter will be marked late and penalized with 1 point deduction while each absence is subject to 2 points deduction. The 4th absence will result in the students disqualification to take the midterm or final examination. Any absence or late attendance due to sickness or any emergency should be supported with a valid document.
