Automatic railway level crossing control Synopsis A paradigm for the hardware design of automatic railway level crossing

control systems presented with application to indian railways network. In this synopsis, a design principle is offered with particular reference to how they can be applied to the design in indian railways. The aim is focused to an implementation of how to make design decisions about automatic level crossing control systems in a way which will enhance maintainability and understandability of the system and, at the same time, result in good system performance. The aim is to recognize the implications for the system is to control automatically the railway gate without human interference. The system is intended for railways to eliminate human errors and thus arising out of them causalities. On sunday 5th february,1961 the first automatic level crossing in britain came into use. In the earlier days level crossing was controlled mechanically. Automatic level crossing control came into use by the use of relay contacts and barriers. On almost every model railway there is at least one place where road and rail cross. Some way of making the level crossing safe is needed. There are several ways of doing this, including gates, booms and crossing lights. Modelling gates is fairly simple, as they are available as plastic kits, but making them operate is quite difficult, as complex gearing is needed. To create a system which can be operated automatically in railways for level crossing control for reducing human errors, better unmanned handling, more human safety , reducing time, money and energy required. These days manual level crossing control are in use at the indian railways which leads to a number of casualties. Due to various constraints the indian railways cannot introduce the automatic system of level crossing control. The reliability and robustness of manual gate control is very less which leads to a number of dire consequences. The problems that arises from manual control can be rectified but that type of rectification are short run. The problems remains for a longer period. One cannot eliminate human errors completely, the mechanical malfunctions are harder to detect and diagnose in large scale thus reducing chances for fault correction. Nowadays digital electronics circuits are used thus reducing human and mechanical malfunctions and also reducing cost and time for installation. 09/11/2009 Key technologies Used in this project: IR Transmitter and Reciever Product/ Platform used in this project: Tibco,CA,Yahoo!,IBM,Microsoft
