Mckinsey Questions Personal impact

1. What experiences have you had working in teams? Using a specific example, what role did you play on the team? How did you select that role? What were the most/least satisfying aspects of working on that team? What is the most difficult thing for you in working with a team? 2. Describe your relationships with colleagues, professors, bosses, and others in a significant academic/work experience. In what ways were you most effective with people? What conflicts or difficulties did you experience? What kinds of people did you find most challenging? What would your colleagues say about you? 3. Describe the social environment at your school. How satisfying was it for you? What difficulties did you experience? Did you have any specific problems with the faculty or administration? With which groups did you interact most comfortably? 6. Describe a situation in which you recognized a problem or opportunity and organized people or actions in response. Did you choose to pursue this situation on your own or did someone else ask or suggest that you pursue it? What obstacles did you face? How did you overcome them? 7. 11. What aspirations do you have for yourself over the next 5 or so years professionally and personally? 12. Describe a situation in which you were aspiring to reach a goal. What obstacles confronted you along the way? What did you do to overcome them? 13. Describe a situation that demanded sustained, unusually hard work, where others might have thought you couldn't succeed. Was the experience stressful? If so, how did you handle the stress?

Others
14. Tell us something about yourself? Keep the answer short and to the point. Talk confidently, don't rush. Use your resume summary as a base to start. Do not waste too much time on family background and school life. 15. What do you know about our company? Always go to a war prepared, as the old saying goes. Do the homework before the interview board. Find the basic information about the company from the net, company website, friends. Find out as much as you can about the company's products, size, turnover, management, people, working culture, history and philosophy. 16. Why do you want to work for our company? Never start first about what you want. First talk about their needs. You would like to be a specific company project. You can make a definite contribution to the company's problems and goals. 17. What else can you do for us? What can you do for us that someone else can't? For replying this question, try to understand the basic business philosophy of the company and then by illustrating the past experiences you've had, try to demonstrate how you can bring your experience to the company. Use some past experience to show that you have had success in solving the previous employer's problem(s) that may be similar to those of the prospective employer and you have the skills necessary to deal with the job requirements. 18. What about the job offered to you find the most attractive? Least attractive? Let the positives outshine the negatives significantly. List a few i.e. three or more attractive factors that makes you interested about the job offered to you and only one minor attractive factor that is not much important. 19. Why should we hire you? Because of your experience, which will be quite handy, knowledge & skills that you have leant and developed over the years and nonetheless the abilities you bring along apart from the positive outlook and the optimism. 20. What do you look for in a job? A chance to prove yourself by getting an opportunity to use your skills, to perform and be recognised by company as a go-getter 21. Please define in your words ..(the position for which you are being interviewed)? Keep it short and to the point specifying a brief definition which is - an actions and results -oriented definition.

Experience and Management Questions


22. What is your management style? (You should've been prepared with this question if you aren't prepared). Say something about being accessible and open to suggestions. "Open - door management" is best if you are describing accessibility And that you are sincere about meeting the deadlines and you get the job done on time or inform the management. You listen to constructive criticism and are open to ideas. 23. Are you a good manager? Give an example. Why do you feel that you have top managerial potential? Planning is one thing and getting other people to follow the deadlines and the guidelines is a real challenge. Also maintaining the budget is like walking on a thin line. Getting things planned and done on time within the budget. 25. What is your biggest weakness as a manager? Be honest and end on a positive note. Say something really nice to bring out the best in you. E.g. " I don't enjoy reprimanding people, so I try to begin with something positive first."

Industry Trend Questions


26. What important trends do you see in our industry? Keep your answer to two or three trends. Prepare this in advance and proof read it to eliminate errors so that it reflects you are in the industry, Be confident about the trends. You may be asked to give your opinion on these trends. Be prepared with your opinion. 27. In your current or last position, what are or were your five most significant accomplishments? Refer to the key accomplishments already identified on your resume.

Your Work Habit and style


28. How would you be rated by your previous superior in terms of your strengths and weaknesses? Be prepared. Outline your strengths and weaknesses. Don't be generous with weaknesses. You don't yourself to project as a person with full of weaknesses. Weaknesses should be ones that can be eliminated. Infact, you ought to be working on them. Strengths should flow and merge sublimely with your achievements in your resume.

29. Ability to work under pressure? If possible, give examples where you were under pressure to deliver and you came off with flying colours. You should be prepared to slog.

30. How have u changed the nature of your job? You brought a sincerity and challenge to the job. You recognised & rewarded the hard work put by others and respected the opinion of others. Tell about books, sports or films to show that you have balance in your life. 36. What is the toughest part of a job for you? Be honest; remember, not everyone can do everything. 37. Are you creative? Well, did that surprise you? Smile. Yes, in a way. Give examples. Remember you are not M.F. Hussain or Reena Dhaka, so cut out the crap. 38. What are your future goals? Avoid, "I would like the job you advertised." Instead, give long-range goals. 39. What are your strong points? Present at least three and relate them to the company and the present job you have in hand and of course, the job you are being interviewed for. For god's sake don't try to prove yourself to be a superhuman with super powers. 40. What are your weak points? Never say you have none. That's impossible to digest. Try not to site personal characteristics as weaknesses, but be ready to have one if the interviewer presses. Tun a negative into a positive answer: "I am sometimes intent on completing an assignment and I get too deeply involved when we are late."

41. If you could start your career again, what would you do differently? Nothing I am happy today, so I don't want to change my past. You don't want to project yourself as being sorry or dejected about the past. You should have pride in your achievements till date. 42. What career options do you have at the moment? " I see three areas of interest". Relate those to the position and industry. 43. How would you describe the essence of success? According to the definition of the success, how successful have you been so far? Be honest and positive. Be forthcoming with your achievements and the recognition of your efforts by the company. Give due credit to teamwork and team members but your leadership skills to bring out the best from tean must be clear.
