I have the honour and privilege of presenting the placement brochure for the year 2006 batch. The Department of Electronics Technology prides itself as being at the leading edge in the development of newest technologies. The mission of the Department is to develop positive, goal-oriented engineers to mpact the marketplace in a dynamic way. At undergraduate levels, there is an emphasis on learning, innovation, enterprise, global outlook and research integrated with education. Over the years, our Facultys thriving research environment has facilitated outstanding research and development . It has a strong tradition of incubating research institutes and major R&D projects. We shall continue to focus on research in cutting-edge areas with a strong emphasis on industry relevance. The Faculty also actively promotes transdisciplinary research in Microwave Propagation, Dielectric Materials, Fiber Optics, Digital Signal Processing, amongst other disciplines. We collaborate with ndustry and strengthen them with our technologies and expertse. The Holy City-Amritsar

Amritsar, literally meaning "Holy Pool of Nectar", is the home to the Golden Temple, and is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh Religion. Founded by Sri Guru Ramdas Ji the 4th Guru of Sikhs, it was completed in 1601 by his successor Sri Guru Arjan Dev. Jewelled in the west of Punjab, 27 Km from international Wagah Border, with a population of over a million, this Holy city is known for its rich cultural heritage and has always been a delight for tourists all over the world. Golden Temple, Durgiana Temple, the historical Jallianwala Bagh, the much talked about Wagah Border and mouth watering Amritsari food makes it a place worth visiting. It is also a matter of great pride for us that Golden Temple has been ranked as the 6th most worth visiting site in the World. With an International Airport at Raja Sansi, Railway Station Amritsar, it is easy to reach by plane, train, car or bus.
About The University
Guru Nanak Dev University was established in 1969 to commemorate the quincentenary birth celebration of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is a multi-faceted university spread over an area of 202.34 hectares. The faculties of Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Humanities, Agriculture and Forestry, Food and Fermentation Technology, various other life sciences , Ayurveda system of medicine and Physical Education have in all 35 departments under heir aegis. Among these the department of Chemistry and Human Genetics have been accorded international ecognition. The University is running highly professional courses such as Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and communication, Master of Business Administration, Master of Commerce, Master of Computer Application, Master of Personal Management and Industrial Relations, Master of City and Regional Planning, B. Arch. to mention a few. Carefully nurtured by illustrious academicians, the University has carved a place for itself on the academic a map of India. The University was the first in Northern India to get FIVE STAR Accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in April 2000. According to the UGC rating, GNDU is India's fastest growing university denoting its dynamic enterprise and multifaceted outlook. The university has won the Maulana Abul Kalam Trophy for Inter-varsity sports, a record number of 18 times since 1978. Sports itself is an integral part of campus life along with academics. The University s committed in creating a caring environment to cultivate education for professional life. Over the years, the University has built up an excellent academic infrastructure in the form of a well stocked computerised library, state of the art laboratories, Academic Staff College, All India Services Training Centre, nstrumentation Centre, Computer Centre, 24 hours internet facility, Placement Unit etc. To promote research among its faculty, almost all the departments have been provided with independent computer facilities and departmental library. n addition to the academics, the University has also facilitated for recreational and all round development of its students. Faculty in the form of Department of Youth Services, National Service Scheme, Conference Hall, Sports Hostel , Health Centre, Student's Centre, two separate holiday homes at Dalhousie for teachers and students, working women hostel along with on campus residential facilities for a large number of students, teacher and administrative staff.
GNDU Amritsar Campus
The department has over 21 years experience of providing students across the region with qualification and knowledge to build a career in ever expanding industry while it's staff undertakes the research that shapes the nature of that industry. The department is committed to the idea that the students are equipped with a wide range of professional skills to cater to the very demanding needs of the industry. As the department is responsive to the needs of the individual students, it comprises of well-equiped laboratories and a well-maintained library comprising of the latest books, journals, magazines and research papers. The campus has a well-established reputation in the field of high quality research, teaching and student support at B.Tech. level. Its reputation and high quality of education reflects from FIVE STAR level awarded to it by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The Electronics Students Association (ESA) is the student committee committed to enhancing the overall personality of the electronics students by organising various university level functions and keeping the students well informed and in touch with progress of the department. The relationship between the students and staff is very much apartnership academic level so that students get the maximum help whenever required..
Jalandhar Campus
GURU NANAK DEV UNIVERSITY is fast emerging as one of the mportant centers in the area of education and research in the northern part of India. It was actually a long cherished desire of esidents of Jalandhar and nearby cities that GNDU should provide more avenues to the youth, aspiring to become engineers and technologists. With the encouragement of Punjab government and Vice-Chancellor Dr S.P.Singh the Department Of Electronics And Communication was established with an objective to impart quality technical education at reasonable cost. This department started functioning in 2002 and received recognition from AICTE UGC. Since inception of ECE Department, it has made a tremendous growth. The Department offers a wide range of courses which addresses all of the major subject areas underpinning the new, IT based modern economy. Modern teaching is ensured to offer high quality undergraduate B.Tech students with a rich potential embedded with inter-disciplinary knowledge, human values and professional ethics. The department offers a unique blend of theory and practice which help the students to assimilate he subjects thoroughly.
Gurdaspur Campus
Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus Gurdaspur is located on Hardochhani road, 3 km away from the heart of the city located in the lap of pristine nature, the campus lush with green surroundings, pollution free and serene environment which is ideally suited for academic activity. View of snow clad mountains and open fields surrounding with eucalyptus plantation add beauty to the natural glory of the campus. Well-maintained open playground is another priced assets in the institute. In such ideal conditions Department of Electronics & Communication is making future engineers with innovated capabilities, practical skill leadership and decision making qualities. The department has perfect infrastructure and offers all the necessary facilities. Besides the excellent environmental conditions best suited for the academic studies the campus also possesses certain very precious assets in the form of very knowledgeable and hardworking faculty, excellent and well maintained library, a well maintained computer lab providing access to students and staff, a very spacious and well-equipped conference hall and auditorium, and most importantly and of great significance is the culture of its students who are enthusiastic and goal oriented. The laborateries help in giving the students a chance to implement the theoretical concepts that they have studied in academic. The students are given thorough knowledge about the technological advances with all the practical exposure.
Pedagogy - The Teaching Learning Process
Integrated Learning Approach

The department uses a judicious blend of concepts, theory and practice to prepare the students to function in a dynamic environment. The main emphasis is to develop skills and aptitudes to put acquired knowledge into practice which makes the courses interesting. Different learning methods are used which are appropriate to the course and help students in developing the habit of thinking, questioning, analysing and decision making.
LABS
The department has the following well equipped laboratories:
Electronics Lab :
The laboratory is equipped with sophisticated testing, designing and measuring instruments like VTVM, DMM-100 MH3 high resolution CROs, digital function generator and counter etc.
Microwave Lab : The laboratory has good microwave bench to train students in the
field of microwave engineering. Apart from other equipment, Gunn-Occillators and Klystron-Oscillators are available for practical.
Microprocessor Lab :
The department has a well equipped microprocessor lab having sufficient numbers of 8085, 8086, Z-80, Vm-85/9 kits. In addition to this, there are micro controller kits, micro training kits and EPROM programmer.
Communication Lab : There are AM, FM, PSK, PPM, PWM, PAM and QPSK kits
available for practical. The computer lab of the department has various P-III, Celeron based PCs running on Linux and Windows. They are all with multimedia kits. There is a good connectivity of all the terminals in the department through LAN and internet.

Wide range of receivers and transmitters are available for practical purpose. TV tutors are also present.
The Industrial Electronics & Machines Lab has a wide range of Thyristor kits like AC-DC load SCR kits, UJT kits. Sophisticated PCB development system is available for making high quality printed circuit boards. Photo etching & camera reduction technique is also present.

The lab has fully computerized system and advanced MICROKITS like TMS320C25 and TMS320C52 for conducting the requisite practices of final year students.
Course Overview
Designed to excell, the course had been meticulously designed by highly trained academics. The course is a perfect blend of basic electronics and modern communication systems specially combined to meet with the market trends. The course as a whole offers an insight into the various realms of electronics from solid-state physics to radar system,. This insatiable human urge to reinforce our institution-industry interface, the course on VLSI design has been given a important place in the revised curriculum. The design of the curriculum is so flexible, that it efficiently responds to the dynamic needs of the Telecommunications and information Technology Industry.

Extra academic activities: The students of our dept. are adept in these too. This is shown by the prizes won by them in State Level Quiz, paper presentations, seminars etc. Sports Activities: The students of this University have won Maulana Abul Kalam Trophy for a record 18 times. Moving on the same line, our department students have also won the overall Inter-department sports trophy for 3 consecutive years. The three tiers of a perfect student are his intellect, his sportsman spirit and his confidence on stage. The students of our department have shown proficiency in all these. And to further enhance these proficiencies Electronics Students Association (ESA) organises various cultural activities ,quiz competitions etc. This provides the students enough confidence to face the challenges of life which is evident from huge participation in Inter- Departmental events like "JASHAN" and "YOUTH FESTIVAL".
