An Active sentence is the one in which the Active verb is used means the one in which the action performed (Verb) can clearly be associated with the subject...OR the subject is present in the sentence...look at following example... That boy broke the chair...The boy (subject) broke (verb) the chair (object)...so you see that action is performed by the active subject and verb... have a look at following sentence... The chair was broken. The chair was broken by that boy. Both are passive voice...now you may say that in second sentence Subejct is present so why is it an passive one? The subject is present but not in active sense, so here subject is not performing the function of a Subject rather it is called an Agent, so both are passive... concluding it we can say that in Active we know that who performs an action but in passive we can't associate the action with a subject or we don't know who performed an action...i hope you got it...
