Questionnaire I am an Alevel student studying media currently making a music magazine that focuses on the hip-hop genre. My target audience is people aged 16-21 that are interested in hip-hop music. I would appreciate it if you took the time to fill out this questionnaire. 1. Are you male/female? Due to my target audience being mixed, I asked an equal amount of both males and females making it (50% males and 50% female) on my feedback. 2. How old are you? The age of the people I asked was between 16-19. This is the majority age of my target audience so it fitted the right group of people and my results would deem very useful for me. (20% were 16, 40% were 17, 20% were 18 and 20% were 19) this gives me the initial feedback I need as its covered almost all areas of my target age. 3. Are you interested in hip-hop music? All of the people I asked were (100%0 interested in hip-hop music which benefits my results as I can find out what hip-hop artists they listen to and what elite star they would more likely like to see on the front cover of my magazine. Also I can find out what people would like to read and be interested in. 4. Do you currently buy/read music magazines? Only 30% of people who did my questionnaire actually bought/read music magazines and 70% of them did not. This tells me that I have to work extra hard to catch the attention of those who wouldnt normally buy/read music magazines. 5. How much would you be willing to pay for a music magazine?(please tick) 40% of people said that they would be openly willing to pay 1- 2 for a music magazine. However 60% of people said they would pay 2- 3. I have took into consideration that the majority of my target audience are students and in order for my magazine to sell the price would have to be reasonable so Im on the 2 -3 range.

6. What types of music magazines do you buy/read? What do you like about these magazines? A couple of people said they read VIBE magazine due to the layout and weekly information about the hip-hop genre and the insights into the celebrities lives. One of the people read Billboard which is also a hip-hop magazine, they said it was interesting to read and the main image on the front cover is always well presented and eye catching. These are elements I need to consider when making my own. 7. What types of hip-hop artists would you like to see on the cover of a music magazine? When reading the answers they were all different but they all suggested popular, attractive hip-hop artists currently on the charts. Such as Rihanna, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Kanye West, Jay Z and so on. 8. What type of colours would attract you to a front cover of a magazine? The majority of people said they would prefer bright colours to dark. I shall have to be aware of this when choosing the colours of my music magazine. However there are other factors that are more important such as if the bright colours clash with the main image or if the bright colours take away the appeal of the main image. 9. What type of things would you like to see on the contents page? People said that they would like to see more gig information and latest news. They also wanted latest gossip on celebs and more information on upcoming stars. This is useful as it tells me what type of articles to mention on my contents page to interest the reader. 10.What type of things would you like to see on a double page spread? All the people I asked said that they wanted to see articles on famous upcoming artists and insights into the persons life and love life. Most people said they like interviews instead of a heap of information. This helps me with the layout and what type of double page spread ill carry out.
