Board Chair Message

Thanks to hard work, personal dedication and donations, Habitat Greater Vancouver is on solid ground. A series of fundraising events, Restore profits, individual donations and corporate sponsorships have raised funds to keep pace with a busy building schedule. Everyone at Habitat is excited about the completion of another four houses and the dedication ceremony scheduled for October 2. This goal was reached through the effort and perseverance of Wayne Stewart and the other volunteers on the Construction Committee. In addition Bill Robinson and his materials team arranged a record value for In-Kind donations. Jeanette Thompson and the Family Partnering Committee continued

their great work and added new partners for current Habitat families. Family Selection Committee volunteers have almost completed the application process for Phase Four. I would also like to thank Ronda Field, Don Jantzen, Tom Kozar, Heather Ross and Clive Sanders who retired from their roles on the Board of Directors. Each made contributions in numerous capacities and the affiliate has truly benefited from their involvement.

Following the AGM, the Board now welcomes Derek Hodgkinson to chair Family Selection, Joan McArthur-Blair as Board Secretary, Roy Patzer as member at large, and Thomas Walsh as Treasurer. This years board is strong and the future is bright. With your continued assistance, the coming year will prove to be as productive for families in need as this year just past. Thank you all for your support! - Jeffrey Monachello.

ReStore Notes
Habitat ReStore will mark its second anniversary in October 2004. The ReStore will join in celebrating the dedication and completion of the second set of four houses as a full house sponsor. This house sponsorship recognizes the contribution of volunteer Lynnwood Robb, who passed away in 2004, but was instrumental in starting the ReStore. Torlys Inc. has joined Habitat for Humanity Canada as a National Gifts-in-Kind Sponsor for flooring materials. In addition to laminate flooring donated toward the houses under construction in Phase two, Torlys is supporting the ReStore with cork, wood and laminate flooring products from their local branch office in Surrey. THANKS TORLYS! The ReStore also thanks Russell Lighting and Grand & Toy for recent donations and welcomes the newly opened Home Depot in West Vancouver to the weekly schedule for donation pick-ups by the ReStore truck. These contributions significantly impact the variety and quality of products the ReStore can offer customers. The ReStore needs volunteer drivers to help collect donations. Please call Tom, at (604) 293-1898.

Alcan Dragon Boat Festival

incorporated into the house. The winner was eleven year old Tanner Walkley of Surrey who guessed 31,412 cans and won a gigantic dragon to add to his collection of stuffed animals. Alcan invited the Habitat for Humanity Society of Greater Vancouver to be part of the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival in False Creek, June 18-20. The well-received display centred on a house of aluminum cans, constructed by ReStore volunteers. Habitat hosted a contest to guess the winning number of cans
