Lead Pastor: Rev. Vernon Burrow 406-6385 Youth & Education Pastor: Rev. Brad Unland 772-4680 Minister of Music: Ben Spicer Worship Leaders: Rebecca Butler, Karen White Feb. 24, 2013 Second Sunday in Lent Enter to Worship The Prelude and Call to Worship (Please begin to grow quiet to prepare for worship) Welcome and Announcements *Lighting of the Candles (Bringing in the Light of Christ) Acolytes Time with Our Children (Children up to age 12 may come to the stage) Brad Unland (As the Hymn of Praise begins, children from three years old through 6th grade may go with Pastor Brad to the office annex for New Hope Kidz Childrens Church) *The Praise Medley I Will Call upon the Lord (Hymnal page 38) There Is a Redeemer (Hymnal page 206) Come, Let Us Worship and Bow Down (Hymnal page 14) *The Prayer of Adoration The Prayer of Confession (in unison) Gracious God, We acknowledge that You are willing to give us more than we are ready to receive. The ways of the world often seem more enticing to us than the ways of the Lord. We seek immediate rewards offered by Satan, rather than the promises that lead to eternal life. We want the rewards of Easter without the disciplines of Lent. We chose the broad ways that lead to destruction, rather the narrow ways that lead to fulfillment. We settle for mediocrity in our life with You, rather than the extraordinary lives we may have in the Spirit, Forgive us the grief we cause You, and the damage we bring on ourselves by our sins and shortcomings. Give us the fullness of life that comes from Resurrection Living. Amen. Individual Confessions (pray silently) The Assurance of Pardon *The Gloria Patri The Old Testament Lesson *Hymn Hosea 11:1-8 Come, Thou Fount #623 Mary Lou Bay, reader #2 10:00 a.m.

Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, now into our third century serving God! If you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here is some helpful information as you join us in worship today: All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gender, physical disability or religious affiliation. Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Communion as well, if parents approve. A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.) Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (main foyer) and adjacent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. Please complete the tear-off attendance slip attached to the bulletin and drop it in the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit with us today. Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service. No food or beverages in the sanctuary, please. If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with us often! New Hope Church exists to: Glorify God in worship and rejoice in our life together; Share the Good News of the Gospel in word and deed; Reach as many as we can with the saving love of Jesus; Help each person grow toward Christian maturity, and find their place of service in the church and in the world.

leave the church in total darkness. A very somber and moving worship experience. Christian Beginners is a new class for young children ages 1-2. It meets every Sunday morning in the Nursery at 9:00 for singing, fun, and learning. The New Hope Food Pantry Canned goods, non-perishables and dry goods work best. We can use cereals, if we can get them turned out quickly. Take whatever you bring to the kitchen. Please see Evelyn Price or the Pastor if you know anyone inside or outside the church that has a need. Stephen Ministry - Got a burden? You dont have to carry that burden alone. You can have a STEPHEN MINISTER who will spend time with you, listen to you, and walk beside you. If you or someone you know are interested in receiving care through the Stephen Ministry program at New Hope, please contact the pastor through the Church office at (615) 449-7020 and request that a Stephen minister contact you.

A movie will be shown in the church office for the children during the table discussion time. Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 11. Dont forget the Saturday night before to spring forward by moving your clocks ahead one hour. Workday here at the church to prepare for Easter will be Saturday, March 16 starting at 8:00 a.m. The rain date is the following Saturday, March 23. new convert went in deep distress to see his pastor. "No matter how much I pray, no matter how hard I try, I simply cannot seem to be faithful to my Lord. I think I'm losing my salvation." His pastor said, "Do you see this dog here? He is my dog. He is house-trained; he never makes a mess; he is obedient; he is a pure delight to me. Out in the kitchen I have a son, a baby son. He makes a mess, he throws his food around, he fouls his clothes, he is a total mess. But who is going to inherit my kingdom? Not my dog; my son is my heir. You are Jesus Christ's heir because it is for you that He died." We are Christ's heirs, not through our perfection but by means of His grace.
