Secondary mission
The secondary mission is not set in stone at the
moment, but we are looking into the possibility
of assigning the satellite the secondary mission
of spying by the use of a camera. The goal of
the secondary mission will be to gather useful
information about the mounting of cameras on
satellites.
In order to accomplish this mission we will have to put a lot of effort into
researching the relevant fields within physics and engineering. Especially the
fields of programming, electronics and the physics involved in parachuting. At the
moment, due to the still early stage of planning, we have not got a complete list
of the necessary components needed, but obviously we will at least need the
standard Cansat set, a parachute and a camera. We will also need a good public
relations policy to be able to raise funds for the project (well, not really, but we
can pretend to).
Planning
The satellite will have to be finished by the 29.04.09 which gives us roughly a
month and a half to finish the project. Hopefully we will be able to get all the
necessary components within a week or two, which gives us some time to do
some research beforehand. When the parts arrive, we will aim to finish the
parachute fairly quickly. Hopefully this will be done within the three first weeks of
the project, thus freeing up manpower for other tasks. Simultaneously work will
be done on the construction of the satellite itself, and on programming the
software.
We also hope to have the satellite ready for its primary mission with the
necessary software to run it within the first three or four weeks of the project.
Then we will be free to focus on the secondary mission. The last one and a half
weeks will be used for testing, and smaller modifications.
Primarily we will work on the project in two one and a half hour sessions a week,
plus one session of three hours and 45 minutes one Wednesday. If necessary we
will assign more time to the project.
On our team we have one software specialist, one electronics and hardware
specialist, one physics and engineering expert and one public relations manager.
