Helping
Create
Global
Citizens
t is a goal of the Lansing School District to create citizens of the world by providing unique educational opportunities abroad. This year the school district is honored to announce that city officials from Otsu, Japan, have invited 12 middle school students and 3 chaperones to visit their city in November 2012.
tudents must participate in a rigorous application process in order to serve as a goodwill ambassador to Otsu, Japan. Each applicant must complete a detailed application form, submit two letters of recommendation, complete an in-school essay about why they would like to serve as a goodwill ambassador to Japan, and participate in an interview by a panel of school and community members. A final selection committee will meet in March 2012 to select the final representative group of students.
he city of Otsu, Lansings longest-standing sister-city, will provide housing, food, and transportation for the students once they have arrived in Japan. However, students and chaperones must purchase their own international flights and other necessary costs to prepare for the trip. In order to offer this opportunity to as many students as possible, the school district is asking for support from the community.
