Rise to Power Sumer was a region of independent villages and citystates since 5000 BCE. In 2300 BCE, the Akkadians people came from the north and conquered most of the Fertile Crescent Region. They were led by a military leader named Sargon the Great. The First Empire The Sargon Legend states that Sargons mother placed him in a basket then set floating down the Euphrates River. He was raised in the royal home, became cupbearer to the king, and possibly* assassinates him. Many historians connect the story of Moses and Gilgamesh to the life of Sargon. He created the worlds first empire and successfully ruled his vast territory for 56 years delegating power to loyal governors.

Culture Akkadians language replaced Sumerian; however they still used cuneiform to write. Sargons daughter Enheduanna (the first author in history to write in first person) left behind many writings, including songs and hymns. The four empires that rose in Mesopotamia are Akkadian empire, the Babylonian empire, the Assyrian empire, and the Neobabylonian empire. The map shows the city states around 2300 BCE. This is important because it will help people get to the places the want to go to. This shows me that sargon was very powerful, strong, and a skilled general. The Akkadians came from Sumer and the great king sargon was their leader. Sargon was both strong and a great general. He kept control of his empire by having soldiers sand in front of every one so no one would get hurt. Their greatest achievement was when they used irrigation and started farming. Capital is a city that is the center of government. A tribute is wealth sent from one country or ruler to another as a sign that the other is superior. It is important because it is a place where people live and had families. They incorporated it buy using irrigation, cuneiform writing, and worshiped the same gods and goddesses. Their biggest culture achievement is Sumerian language. The empire fell because it was to hard to manage. The Sumerian artifact shows a king or a general
