WHO WILL BE CROWNED CHAMPION? THE 2010 NYPL PLAYOFFS GAMES BEGIN SEPTEMBER 7

June 2010 Dear New YorkPenn League Fans: I welcome you to the New YorkPenn Leagues 72nd consecutive season, which makes the New York-Penn League the oldest continuously-operated Class A league in Minor League Baseball. The New YorkPenn League is comprised of 14 clubs located in Connecticut (1), Maryland (1), Massachusetts (1), New York (8), Ohio (1), Pennsylvania (2), and Vermont (1). The 2009 season marked the eighth consecutive year that League attendance exceeded 1.75 million fans, which makes the New YorkPenn League the premier short season league in Minor League Baseball. The 6th Annual New YorkPenn League All-Star Game will be held on August 17, 2010 in Staten Island, New York. The Staten Island Yankees which won the 2009 League Championship - will host this years classic at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George. The 2010 All-Star Game will, once again, pit the best prospects from the Leagues seven National League affiliates (the Florida Marlins, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, and Washington Nationals) against the best prospects from the Leagues seven American League affiliates (the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Toronto Blue Jays). It is our sincere hope that you will join us throughout the summer to celebrate Americas favorite pastime with your family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike.

Most sincerely, NEW YORKPENN LEAGUE

BRINGING CHEERS FOR 71 YEARS

This league was founded in 1939 with the name Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League. This was generally shortened to PONY League. The original teams included the Batavia Clippers; the Bradford Bees; the Hamilton Red Wings; the Jamestown Jaguars; the Niagara Falls Rainbows; and the Olean Oilers. The Oilers, a Brooklyn Dodgers affiliate, won both the regularseason and playoff championships. The Hamilton Red Wings folded early in the 1956 season, and with no more teams in Ontario, the league adopted its current name in 1957. The league crossed back into Canada with the formation of the St. Catharines Blue Jays in 1986. They were joined by the Hamilton Redbirds in 1987 and the Welland Pirates in 1989, but all three clubs had moved back stateside by 2000.
