Improving the Process MEG

Why Selective MEG Technology?
Average growth rate of MEG consumption will be 6-7% per year and DEG less than 6%

Therefore Shell is actively involved in development of a more selective MEG process for own and licensed plants
Higher MEG capacity with same EO plant Capital and operating cost advantages

Unbalance in future global MEG/DEG market will put pressure on DEG prices

Shell OMEGA Process: Scale-up

Process successfully scaled from lab to pilot plant to commercial scale 40 kt of on-spec MEG produced in commercial-scale unit MEG successfully tested in 3rd party PET plants; full compatibility with MEG from conventional processes

Shell OMEGA Process: Advantages

Lower capital investment cost of 10% (at equal MEG capacity)

No DEG/TEG purification, storage & handling required

20% lower steam consumption

30% less wastewater produced
