Inspection of MC-40 Fuel Control and Governor Speed Rotor

Weights
Investigation of fuel controls and governors have revealed
speed rotor assemblies with rotor weights that were not
properly processed. As a result, operational problems
may occur during start, e.g. stagnation, Nl acceleration
to 80% rpm, or unstable N2 rpm.
CECO authorized personnel will accomplish this inspection
as soon as possible on the units listed in Table 1. Each
inspected unit will also be identified with the letter R
stamped on the unpainted area adjacent to Colt Industries.

EFFECTIVITY:

Inspect those units listed in Table 1.

To be accomplished by CECO authorized personnel as

soon as possible.

PROCEDURE:

Inspect Speed Rotor Weights.

a.

Remove Fuel Controls and Governors from aircraft,

shipping containers, etc. Using wrench STD 67229,
remove the speed rotor assembly.

b.

Inspect the installed weight for c:olor. Acceptable weights

will be completely straw-colored.

c.

If unacceptable,

proceed as follows:

(1) Carefully remove and discard retaining ring (Item 7,

Figure 1~) and remove speed weight (Item 6).
(2) Using tweezers, carefully remove spring
(Item 8). Exercise caution to insure that
shims (Item 9) are not lost.

(3) Measure the speed weight bleing removed and

the replacement speed weiglht for X dimension.
(See Figure 2).
(4) Select replacement speed weight having an
x7 dimension not to exceed plus Or minus
0.001 of removed speed weight.

Install correct amount of removed shims,

spring and speed weight. Carefully install
new retaining ring (Item 7, Figure 1) using
inserter STD67203.

Once acceptable,

reinstall

the speed rotor.

0) Inspect packings.

Lubricate packings with

a light coat of petrolatum, Federal
Specification VV-P-236.

(2)

Install speed rotor assembly using wrench

STD67229, and tighten with 20-30 inch
pounds torque.

(3) Stamp the unit nameplate with the R stamp

in the unpainted area adjacent to Colt
Industries. Record compliance with
CSL-1024 in the Engine Assembly (white
pages) Inspection Record, Part III of the
Engine Log Book.
