FUEL SPRAY NOZZLE, V-SLOT METERING VALVEINSTALL AND REIDENTIFY PLANNING INFORMATION: EFFECTIVITY: All 250-C20, C20B, Bli, and B17B Engine Assemblies which incorporate P/N 6874959 (Diesel Equipment Division P/N 5232815) Fuel Spray Nozzle Assemblies. NOTE: The letter X is permanently marked on two of the flats of the V-slot nozzle body mounting hex for ease of identification,

REASON:

New P/N 6890917 Fuel Spray Nozzle Assembly is released to all 250 Series Engines, The new nozzle incorporates a V-slot type metering valve which is less susceptable to sticking from dirt contamination than the present metering valve of the superseded P/N 6874959 Nozzle Assembly, There have been a few instances Iof the metering valve of the superseded nozzle becoming stuck due to dirt contamination between the cylindrical head of the valve and the valve cage. This condition manifests itself as the inability to start, since a proper spray pattern cannot be attained at the low level flows of the starting sequence. The V-slot metering valve is designed so that the cylindrical head of its metering valve never extends beyond the valve cage, In this nozzle, secondary flow passes through V shaped slots machined into the valve head. The metering valve of the V-slot nozzle does not close off both the primary and secondary flow passages as does P/N 6874959 Nozzle when the fuel control cut-off valve is closed. With no fuel pressure at the V-slot nozzle inlet, its metering valve is retractedso that the secondary flow passages are cut off. Also, the V-slot nozzle assembly incorporates a finer mesh filter assembly than the superseded nozzle.

FUEL SPRAY NOZZLE, V-SLOT METERING VALVEINSTALL AND REIDENTIFY DESCRIPTION: Present P/N 6874959 (DED P/N 5232815) Fuel Spray Nozzle Assemblies may be reworked to the new P/N 6890917 (DED P/N 5233333) v-slot configuration by:
l

Installing the new metering valve cage assembly with the V-slot feature. Installing the new metering valve spring,

l l

Eliminating the C-ring seal which is not required with the leakage path through the V-slots into the primary flow passage in the fuel-off condition. Installing the finer mesh filter assembly.

l l

Permanently adding the letter X on two of the flats of the nozzle body mounting hex for ease of identification. the nozzle assembly is reidenti-

Following rework, fied. INTERCRANGEABILITY: COMPLIANCE: APPROVAL: MANPOWER:

All changes described in this bulletin must be incorporated simultaneously. It is recommended that this bulletin be accomplished at first overhaul following parts availability. FAA-DER Approved.

No additional man-hours will be required to accomplish this bulletin at time of overhaul.

FUEL SPRAY NOZZLE, V-SLOT METERING VALVEINSTALL AND REIDENTIFY ACCOMPLISHMENT I. lNSTRUCTIONS:

Rework P/N 6874959 (DED P/N 5232815) Fuel spray Nozzle Assembly to P/N 6890917 (DED P/N 5233333) Nozzle Assemblyas follows: A. Rework P/N 5232791 Nozzle Nut Assembly to P/N 5233409 Nut Assembly by replacing the following parts, 1. 2: 3. B. C. Replace P/N 5232621 Nozzle Valve Spring (9, Figure 1) with new P/N 5233411 Spring. Replace P/N 5232622 Nozzle Valve Cage Assembly (4) with new P/N 5233412 Valve Cage Assembly, Remove and scrap P/N 5232404 Nozzle Seal (7). Assembly (2) with new P/N 5233414

Replace P/N 5232402 Nozzle Filter Filter Assembly.

Reidentify reworked fuel spray nozzle assembly by obliterating former DED part number and etching or stamping DED P/N 5233333. Also, stamp or etch the letter X on two of the flats of the nozzle body mounting hex,

II.

Record compliance with 250 CEB-1067 (C20/C2OB) or TP CEB-1041 (B17/ Bl7B) in the Engine Assembly (white p%es) Modification Record, Part IIl of the Engine Log Book.
