Task 1: What is a project?

A project is a planning of something before an action is taken, according to Latin derivation. It usually involves collaboration of different parties to complete a particular task under time constraints. Project uses may alter depending to the environment where it is undertaken. For example, a school project normally involves an ordinary essay assignment with common data gathering and research from website. It usually takes a shorter period to complete the project given. On the other hand, a building construction project is carried out by registered constructors or developers with contract established. The duration of the project takes a longer period and may last for few years. Both cases vary in terms of scale and time of completion, concluding that project has a very wide physical range.

What are project main attributes?


A project has a unique purpose with well-defined objectives. The objectives are identified and set so that quality products or services can be developed. Besides that, a project is temporary with defined beginning and definite end. The workflow of a project involves team working and cooperation in order to complete it before presenting the results. Furthermore, a project requires variety of resources from various areas (e.g. hardware, software) and people (e.g. sales department, marketing department) to develop comprehensive ideas. Moreover, a project should have primary sponsors or customers to meet the stakeholders demand in a coordinated way . Lastly, a project involves uncertainty because it is subjected to unexpected changes such as emerging of new technologies.

How is a project different from what most people do in their day-to-day jobs?
The difference between a project and day-to-day jobs can be looked in two perspectives. Firstly, project has defined beginning and definite end to outline the time frame of the project, whereas day-to-day jobs are works that routinely implemented in a continuous manner. Besides that, days-to-days jobs are carried out to maintain a sustainable business process while project ends if the purposes of the project have been fulfilled or the project is ceased.
