Point-to-point Microwave Capacity Enhancement for future emerging technologies

New emerging technologies like RAN, LTE and mobile broad band put a huge pressure of data requirements on the back haul network. As point-to-point microwave is one of the integral part of the back haul network which need to address these issues of band width requirements.

Point to Point Microwave Radio Link

There are certain limitations while using microwave, as point to point radio links are using frequency division duplex methods with paired channels therefore these frequencies are regulated through local and international authorities which make the spectrum scare and costly. The spectrum is shown in fig, The available frequency band for the microwave has been already saturated and having very narrow channel bandwidth which can provide the data rates up to 500Mbps on a single Microwave Link.

Microwave Frequency spectrum

The frequency bands shown in the red are those which are still not used commercially although there are much wider channels are available. But the problem of not using these bands are that these are very high frequencies and cannot travel for longer distances and can connect the sites whose separation distance is only up to maximum 2 kilometers even by using high directive antennas.. Now in order to enhance the MW links capacity from the Mbps to the Gbps rates there are certain areas which need to be examine and investigate, o o o o New frequency bands LOS MiMO Technology XPIC Technology Advanced modulation and multiplexing techniques

With mention above methods and techniques the main focus is to increase the gross bit rate through air and the line rate which can be available for the end user to exchange its data over the network. Therefore the focus is only on the area of exploring new modulation and multiplexing techniques which can give the high spectral efficiency with in the available spectral resources. But at the other hand to get the desired outcome it brings complexity to the current system. For avoiding these conditions it will be deeply investigated that how these techniques will be effective to minimized the adverse effects and can deliver maximum output.

Therefore I want to focus the area in the form of a literature review on the LOS MiMO and XPiC technology as they are the most potential methods to get spectrum efficiency to address the capacity demand on the back haul microwave network.
