PURPOSE: For better efficiency and reliability of battery bank. 2. TOOLS & EQUIPMENTS: 1. Multimeter 2. Insulated spanners 3. Clip on meter 4. Hydrometer 5. D M water 3. Ensure availability of certified testing equipments Ensure the schedule of contractor to carry out the complete job Explain the Risk Assessment to contractor employee Explain work permit procedure to contractor employee

1. Confirm e. work permit is available before starting the job 2. Ensure & Check all portable tools and Measuring instruments are inspected and certified 3. Follow Risk Assessment number- ERA 10 for Lead acid and ERA-11 for Ni-Cd battery maintenance. 4. Ensure use of safety shoes, Helmet, Safety goggles, face shield, Apron, Eye wash bottle, hand gloves. 5. PROCEDURE: A stepwise procedure is as per below. 1. Obtain Work permit as per dummy work permit. 2. Check the tightness of inters cell connectors and battery main terminations. 3. Ensure proper ventilation of battery room 4. Ensure the continuous water availability in the battery room. 5. Take all Safety precautions i.e. all PPEs should be used. 6. Keep vent plugs open for all cells before charging the battery. 7. Switch ON TCQC on charger and set charging current in boost mode as recommended by battery manufacturer (C10 for Lead acid and C5 for NiCd as maximum charging current). 8. Take hourly readings for Sp. Gravity and voltage per cell 9. The voltage per cell is 1.69 V for Ni-Cd battery and 2.65 V for Lead acid battery at fully charged condition. 10. After completion of charging put TCQC on FLOAT mode.

Top up all the cells to the optimum level with D M water. Close the Vent plugs for all cells. Do the housekeeping of the battery room. Return the work permit. Keep the records of battery readings for future references.
