In 2009 and 2010, Pemigewasset Ranger District employees removed two bridges located nearly six miles into the Wilderness. The bridges were removed due to safety concerns and the need to preserve the wilderness character. A Palisades Charter High School student is claiming that her coach forced her to fight with another student after she had reported being bullied by her. The girls fought, resulting in scratches and a black eye. I felt embarrassed and humiliated and ashamed, Cimone Holloway told KTLA. Holloway said she was forced to sit on the sidelines and watch with a back eye the last time she was supposed to cheer with her Pali High cheerleading squad. Cimone, a junior, said that she was at odds with a teammate over a boy. When she arrived to cheerleading practice before a game last month, she claims her coach made them work it out with their fists. Ive never been in a fight in my life. I didnt want to fight, she insisted. But Ci-

brothers and to get ready for it Atti and I took a weekend and made our way to the top of Indian Head. The next day we climbed up to Lonesome Lake. On both occasions I thought I was going to die. But that was so long ago and the summer after that we spent every weekend at a motel in Franconia Notch and often when wed arrive late in the afternoon wed get a quick hike in up Pemigewasset and it always felt like coming home. Weve seen the sunrise and sunset, watched the moonrise and the stars emerge in the darkening sky from its stretch of ledges. Weve been there in spring, summer, fall, and winter. Visited the mountaintop on Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day, and Easter. Over those first few years it became more a walk than a hike for us and when Atticus had his cataract surgery, within ten days we climbed our first mountain and it was Pemigewasset. (Later that same day we hiked Welch-Dickey as well. For after losing his eyesight we wanted to drink in as many views as we could with those new eyes.)
This past weekend we hiked Mount Pemigewasset and by the time we returned home to Jackson I felt a bit wistful. You see, Pemigewasset, or Indian Head to those of us who grew up looking at that rocky countenance and were weaned on the legends of the White Mountains and cherished the Old Man of the Mountain, is like an old friend to us. Summer after returning childhood summer we looked up at that Mohawk made of pine trees and that rocky profile like we were looking up at someone we knew. To The Editor______
About four years ago, when the wind farm mania started in the North East, it was reported that Cape Cod was the prime location for a wind farm. Scream, Holler and hand wringing! What will those big Monstrosities do to the tourist industry in MA.? Now N.H. has 20+ of those monstrosities dotting the North Countrys pristine skyline with plans for many more of them on the ridge behind Newfound Lake & other locations. What about our Tourist industry? Who negotiated a program that we do not get any benefits from? The power was needed in MA. & R.I. so it was an act of the Politicians, working behind the Northern Pass debacle to authorize something without the voters and taxpayers being aware they were sold out again by MA. In 1987, they got the new 500 KV line from Monroe N.H. to MA., who then sold the power to N.Y. & N.J. American workers were not hired to build the present windmills. The workers were hired from Spain & Portugal, that was a kick in teeth to N.H. labor. What new assault on N.H. citizens and our beautiful State is coming down the pike ? Concerning the Northern Pass, why can't it be put into an existing right of way, maybe not enough pork to make somebody rich? Respectfully submitter, George Bloom, Warren, NH

Dear Friends, ANTICIPATING THE VOICE OF GOD. EXPECT TO HEAR IT. GOD WILL SPEAK TO THE HEARTS of those who prepare themselves to hear; and conversely, those who do not prepare themselves will hear nothing even though the Word of God is falling upon their outer ears. A.W.Toser. Habakkuk 2:1, I will stand on my guard post. And station myself on the rampart. And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me. Jeremiah 33:3, Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know. Approach the Father with an expectancy that He will speak to you. Habakkuk asked two questions of God. How long? Why? These questions probably strike a chord with you also. When the circumstances of life seem to be closing in on us, and we see no end in sight, we want to know how long we will have to continue calling out to God with seemingly no response. We also want to know why He would continue to allow the circumstances we face. God finally answered Habakkuk's prayer in 1:5, Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days--- you would not believe if you were told. Spiritual vision! Seek the Lord, ask Him to give you spiritual vision! God love you all. When Teflon is exposed to high heat it can release its constituent chemical, PFOA, as a gas. There are no known cases of direct health problems for consumers, but workers producing Teflon are at increased risk for certain cancers, prompting the U.S. government to call for a complete phase-out of Teflon and related products by 2015. - Credit: Hemera Collection are targets of PFOA, and that scientists have been unable to find a level of PFOA that doesnt damage the immune system: Doses given to effected lab animals were minimaland less, relatively, than levels found in children. The fact that PFOA exposure led to testicular, pancreatic, mammary and liver tumors in rats doesnt bode well for what the chemical may do to humans. Dear EarthTalk: Ive read conflicting reports about the dangers of non-stick cookware. I have a set of older non-stick pans and am not sure if I need to replace them. Are they harmful to use, particularly if they have a few scratches? -- Miriam Jones, Montgomery, AL It may be time to upgrade your pans, given that the U.S. government has called for a complete phase-out of polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE, otherwise known as Teflon) and related products by 2015, due to health concerns. When Teflon is exposed to high heat it can degrade, which causes it to release its constituent chemical, PFOA, as a gas. This phenomenon can kill pet birds, and cant be good for humans either. While there are no known cases of airborne PFOA causing direct health problems for consumers, workers in plants where Teflon has been produced are at increased risk for cancers of the pancreas and the male reproductive tract. Numerous studies have shown that PFOA alters reproductive hormones in the male, causing increased levels of estrogen and abnormal testosterone regulation and that PFOA or chemicals that break down into PFOA damage the thyroid gland, reports Melissa Breyer of the website Care2. Of course, the risk of exposure is much lower for a person frying an egg at home than for a factory worker manufacturing PTFE for DuPont. In 2007, Consumer Reports Magazine tested PTFEbased non-stick pans from several manufacturers and found harmful airborne emissions of PFOA to be minimal. The highest level was about 100 times lower than levels that animal studies suggest are of concern for ongoing exposure to PFOA, reported the magazine. With the aged pans, emissions were barely measurable. Some manufacturers are working on safer non-stick cookware using ceramic or silicone coatings free of PTFE or PFOA. But a 2009 survey of eight such alternatives by Cooks Illustrated magazine did not identify any of the new choices out there high marks. Not a single one of these green pans was without flaws, said the magazine. In some, delicate eggs burned, thin fish fillets stuck, and steak charred

Marvin Gay Sr. received only five years probation, even on the outside while remaining though his second shot was at raw within. Others stained or point-blank range after Gaye transferred heat inconsistently. Some pans accumulated the browned bits known as fond when steak was seared, indicating unwanted sticking power.
Many foodies have resigned themselves to the likelihood that the idea of a non-stick pan might in and of itself be too good to be true. As such, cast iron, aluminum, copper and stainless steel each rate high for even heat distribution and for holding up well at high temperatures and frequent use.
