plasticoilpan.
TheElectronicTransmissionControl(EGS)controlunitisintegratedinthecontrolunitframeworkof
theelectronicimmobilizerEWS.Thisprovidesbetterprotectionagainsttheft.
Itisoperatedviathegearselectorswitch.
Thetorqueconvertercontainssecondgenerationmechanicaltorsionalvibrationdampers:

transfercaseisadjustedviatheintegratedcontrolunitofthetransfercase(VTG).Thisprocessissubjecttocorrectionfunctionsinrelationtothewearandrun-inbehaviorinordertoensureoptimumpositioningaccuracythroughouttheentireservicelife.Continuousongoingcalculationofthermalloading
modelsinthecontrolunitofthetransfercase(VTG)protectthetransfercasefromdestructionasaresultofoverheating.
Thevariabledistributionoftorquetothefrontaxleissuperimposedontherigidthroughdrivetothe
rearaxle.
Whenthemultidiscclutchisopen,theentiredrivetorqueistransmittedtotherearaxlefinaldrive
(0/100%).Ifthemultidiscclutchinthetransfercaseisactivated,thedrivetorquewillnormallybedistributedbetweenthefrontandrearaxleaccordingtotheBMW-typicalcharacteristic(40/60%).
DuetothexDrivefunctionalityintheDSC,thetorquedistributionbetweenaxlescanalsobevariedarbitrarilydependingonthedrivingconditions(inresponsetodifferentroadsurfacecoefficientsoffriction).FormoreinformationonthexDrivefunctionality,refertothe"F25chassisandsuspensiontrainingmaterial.

ThepropertiesofthiscollapsingelementhavebeenenhancedfortheF25.Althoughthecapabilityto
transfertorquehasremainedunchanged,thespringforcewhichdeformsthefrontdriveshafttubein
theeventofahead-oncollisionhasbeenreduced.

4.6.Outputshafts,frontaxle
Thefrontoutputshaftstransferthetorquetothefrontwheels.Themovementoftheassemblies(engine/transmission,bearings,rearaxle)alongwiththespringtravelofthewheelsandanglechangesin
thedrivetrainmustbebalancedoutduringthisprocess.
ThefrontoutputshaftsinanxDrivevehiclemusttakeuplargedeflectionanglescausedbythesteeringangleatthewheelhubs.Theoutputshaftsmustalsobecapableoftransferringthemaximum
torqueappliedtothem.
Uptillnow,outputshaftjournalswithlongitudinalsplineshavebeenusedfortheaxletowheelhub
connection.IntheF25,thisconnectionismadebymachiningspurgearsonboththeaxleandthe
wheelhubmatingsurfaces.Whenthesecomponentsarethentorquedtospecificationstheresultis
comparabletotheconventionalsplinemethod.Thissystem(firstintroducedintheEUwiththeE84
X1)simplifiestheinstallationofthedrivetrainattheassemblyplantandreducesmanufacturingcosts.
