Respected Sir This is with regard to recent problem arises during interview at ONGC (Recruitment of Graduate trainee2012), our

degree M.S in Earth Science is not eligible for their intake. When I come home and looked at the entrance criteria of different public sector unit either as Engineer or Scientist the degree that is valid is master in Geology or applied geology, so with M.S in Earth science we are not eligible to apply for such position in the country which is like after studding 5 year in one of the best institute of country we are good for nothing just because of name of our degree. Though some of earth science student are allowed for PhD at some national institute but even for PhD in geology department of some of the national college and institute we are not allowed to apply just because of name of degree and when I go through recent advertisement for scientist post in country at different research institute the eligibility criteria is geology and not earth science. At this point of carrier cracking different entrance examination conducted in the country (like GATE NET and other PSU entrance exam) with good rank I am not able to get in any of the job of my choice hence I am feeling depressed and down (tullu please add some other words similar to the mining). This is happening with most of our friend also who are staying in country for such jobs and will happen so with junior passing out. So I request you to consider my pledge and kindly change the name of degree provided to us. As notification for most of the PSU have already out and written exams are over so interview dates will be coming soon where they check the documents. One of the other option being suggested by some of faculty member is to requesting company to consider earth science degree eligible for their requirements but this process takes lots of time and this happen once in a year that too before the notification of the vacancy. As notification is already out so this year it will not be possible. This processes also need good contact with company higher officer and need constant touch and push and even if get considered then also our two precious year will be lost because we will not be able to get in up to end of 2013. I wish that the issues I raised be taken into due consideration without any delay. The students of the earth science year are about to embark upon a journey into the open competitive world which follows the Darwinian doctrine of survival of the fittest, and thus we would be indebted if our alma mater extends its fatherly arms. Sincerely Shiv Shankar, On behalf of Earth Science Student
