Intern Special Events

Summer Intern Luncheon
At the end of each summer, Freeport-McMoRan hosts a luncheon for all of our summer interns. The event serves as a chance for interns from different sites to come together and share their experiences. Some interns will be selected present to the rest of the interns and some senior management a presentation that summarizes and shares their internship experience. This is a great way to network for the future and learn about the different parts of our business.

Collaborative Assignments
Freeport-McMoRan internships are designed with you, the student employee, as the focus. The goal of our managers is to create meaningful projects where you can learn and grow. Come experience work with highly qualified professionals!

This is a chance for interns to gain some cross functional training by shadowing an employee outside your department for a day. Interested interns should work with their manager to organize a shadow day with another department. You will spend the day learning how the work you are doing in your own department fits in the larger business as a whole. Also, this will provide you with a preview of career opportunities that you may not have previously considered.

A World of Preparation
Each summer, we hire students from various North American universities who work with teams at our global headquarters and at our many site locations across the United States. As a Freeport-McMoRan intern, you can expect an experience that is both challenging and rewarding. Internships typically last between 10 and 16 weeks. During this time, you will be evaluated on your attention to safety and your demonstration of technical expertise, problem-solving and interpersonal skills, including attitude and professionalism.

Geologists
Locating materials to mine is vital to the future of Freeport-McMoRan. Geologists not only explore new mining possibilities, but participate in identifying geological conditions before, during and after mining operations. Geologists also participate in environmental and remediation efforts and plans.

Mining Engineers
Mining engineers at Freeport-McMoRan plan, direct and manage projects related to the mine cycle. Engineers are vital in the planning stage designing the mine and evaluating its profitability. In 2007, mining engineers at Freeport-McMoRan opened the Safford Minethe first new mine in the United States in decades.

Metallurgists
Improving processing technologies is the primary goal of Freeport-McMoRan metallurgists. Process engineers are developing cost-effective, environmentally sound, and less energy intensive process improvements. During the past eight years, Freeport-McMoRan process engineers have applied a high-temperature pressure leaching process that reduces energy consumption by approximately 18 percent.
