OPEN DISCLOSURE DOCUMENT COURSE TITLE: AP CALCULUS BC INSTRUCTOR: JANE WADSWORTH West High School 2012-2013 COURSE DESCRIPTION:

All of the content covered in AP Calculus AB will be reviewed. In addition, BC Calculus topics will be introduced including extended integration techniques, logistic growth, vector-valued functions, and sequences and series. The course will be structured to address the BC outline provided by College Board so that students will have ample practice on all topics they will face on the AP exam in May 2013. COURSE OBJECTIVES: In this course the student will expand upon concepts studied in AP Calculus AB. In addition, many new topics not covered in AB will be introduced. Real-world applications for this knowledge will be emphasized. It is expected that students will be prepared to take the AP exam, and that they will succeed in passing it. REQUIRED CLASSROOM MATERIALS: Pencils are preferred over pens. If you use pen, only blue or black ink is allowed. Notebook or binder for class notes is REQUIRED. Textbook: Calculus, Larson, Hostetler, Edwards 7th Ed. will be provided. A Graphing Calculator is ESSENTIAL. ASSIGNMENTS AND ACTIVITIES: Homework will be assigned daily and stamped in class the day it is due. Stamped assignments will be worth 6 points. Late or incomplete assignments will not be stamped and will lose half or more of their value depending on completeness. If a student has an excused absence, the school excusal form may be stapled to that days assignment ensuring full credit. My lecture notes will be posted online each day, and the assignment for that day will be included. It is the students responsibility to study notes they missed and attempt the new assignment, so that two assignments are not late due to one absence. The student will keep all assignments until the end of each chapter, handing them in on the day of the test with a cover sheet that I will provide for scoring purposes. Homework packets handed in after the test day will lose ten percent of their value for each day they are late. One or two quizzes will be given during each chapter, and these will be scored in class. Although quizzes cannot be made up, they will only be worth 4 points. Missing only one should not affect a students overall grade. During the month of April, 2013, a practice exam may be administered on a Saturday morning which will simulate the actual AP exam format. It is extremely critical that students plan on attending this practice, and it will count on the students grade as a full test. It is my belief that this practice serves to cement a students knowledge and has immediate impact on how well he or she performs on the real AP test. I will inform students of the exact date of the practice exam as soon

as the date of the actual AP exam is known, so that your family can plan to be in town that weekend. In addition, there will be a final project to be completed after the AP exam. It will count 30 points and will consist of a book report and an illustration. TESTS: Tests will be given at natural breaks in the material. They will consist of multiple choice and free response questions and will be worth 100 points. A final exam will be given at the end of each term covering material studied during that term. Cheating will absolutely NOT be tolerated and will result in a score of zero for that test.

CLASSROOM RULES: School attendance and citizenship policies will be followed as outlined in the student handbook. In addition, the following rules will apply to my classes:
