3rd Season Sports:

MS/HS - Badminton, Track and Field and Softball

All 3rd season sports are now in full swing with students and coaches making a very smooth start to the season
after tryouts week concluded. I would like to remind all participating students to complete the ATAC on-line
registration.
3rd season has a number of interruptions and as such students and coaches can lose the flow of the season easily.
Please stay in contact with your coach regarding practices and weekend matches/meets as they relate to your
particular sport this season.

ISM Goodwill Gymnastics Meet 2009 IASAS Cultural Convention:

Our varsity gymnastic team of 24 girls will be
proudly representing ISM this Saturday at the ISM
Goodwill Gymnastics Meet.
Meet starts at 8am and runs all day and with over
200 gymnasts competing in bars, beam, floor and
vault you are sure to see some great action.
Please stop in and see the MS gym transformed
into a gymnastic facility with gymnasts
twisting/tumbling and paparazzi parents a plenty.
This day is the biggest on the calendar for our
gymnastics team and the gymnastics parent
booster club who assist greatly in the set-up and
organization of the meet.
Also on debut will be ISM’s new state of the art
Olympic gymnastics floor which was installed last
weekend in time for the meet.
Hope you can come on Saturday to cheer and
support our ISM gymnastics team.
Next week is Cultural Convention week and our
students and advisors will be heading off to
Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to attend the
Dance/Drama/ Debate/Forensics and the
Art/Music Festivals. All students and advisors
have been working really hard to refine and hone
their individual and groups skills in these multi
disciplinary events. As we all well know from
hosting last years DDDF event it is fantastic week
of student involvement and is a highlight of the
school year to host this event. We wish all
involved a great experience next week.
All cultural convention participants are invited to
the send off lunch on Tuesday March 3rd at Little
Theatre. Please come to the LT immediately lunch

AMIS HONOR BAND:

On behalf of the ATAC, Fine Arts and Music Department I would like to send out a huge thank-you to all the
families that recently housed for the AMIS Band Festival. Your willingness to be involved in this program was
integral to it’s success and assists enormously in making this sort of festival come alive at our school. We received
fantastic reports from the student delegates and the advisors from all schools as to how comfortable and welcoming
ISM families made the visiting musicians feel during their stay.

From the MODERN LANGUAGE DEPT:

Summer Language Study / Home-stay / Travel Program to SPAIN
The ISM High School Modern Language Department is pleased to announce its Summer Language Study / Home-
stay / Travel Program to Spain from June 6th to July 4th 2009 for students aged 13 to 19 years old.
The program aims to develop students’ language proficiency and to broaden his/her cultural knowledge. This
program is being offered in cooperation with Escuela Internacional Madrid (TANDEM), a school in Madrid and
San Sebastian, Spain. Students will continue learning and, more importantly, will practice Spanish through total
immersion in the classes and during the home-stay. The school finds families for students to stay with, assists
in locating appropriate local resources for the group’s activities, plans outings, maintains a list of local medical
and emergency resources, and helps with the orientation for group leaders.

The language course proposal is to have 4 class sessions (45 minutes each) of language and culture from Monday
to Friday, from 09.30 to 13.00 each day (with a break from 11.00 to 11.30). The classes will include language
and culture subjects as well as adequate preparation for the cultural visits. Students will complete a
placement test in order for the school to form groups based on the level of Spanish.
Last year, 15 students from ISM traveled to Spain and all of them reported dramatic improvements in their
acquisition of the Spanish language as well as outstanding experiences with their home-stay families and one
another during their time in Spain.
