WELCOME
Trusting God to reach and raise up indigenous leaders is crucial for the churches and mission organizations engaging in the redemptive work of Christ globally. Whether the focus is planting churches, digging clean water wells, or confronting human trafficking, leaders are required for these efforts to be sustainable. We believe many of these future leaders are on the university campuses of the world. MIDDLE EAST God is moving today in remarkable ways. The church in China has grown to one hundred times its size sixty years ago. Many non-Christians in the Middle East are seeing dreams of Jesus and responding to the gospel. What is more, ministries are increasingly working together to fulfill the Great Commission. We know that pleases God. God has given us strategies, training and materials to win, build and send university students. We have ministries in almost 4,000 student population centers in 115 different countries. But still there are many future leaders who have never heard a clear, relevant presentation of the gospel. If you would like to collaborate to help solve that problem, lets talk. This booklet provides a starting point for that conversation. It features some summer mission project opportunities to help you mobilize people into ministry. It also provides some answers to questions you might have about partnering with CRU. We believe that someday every college student in the world will hear the gospel and be in touch with someone who is living it out. If you want to work together toward that dream, lets pursue it. Yours in Christ,

GOD AT WORK
JOSH
It was amazing to see the hunger of Ivorian Christians studying the Bible with us. We would sit sometimes for several hours following up and training believers to be active and bold in their faith. Through these times of discipleship training, I learned a lot and am excited to go back to school this fall and apply what I learned about teaching scripture. I was also able to become more grounded apologetically when talking to Muslims. They asked tough questions and at times I was unprepared to answer such deep questions: however, I was able to soak up and learn from other believers around me and through Gods word. Josh, Cote dIvoire Summer Project STAGE ONE: SUMMER PROJECT

FROM SHORT-TERM MISSIONS TO SENDING NATIONS

STAGE THREE: INTERNATIONAL CAMPUS STAFF Like the ministries planted by the apostle Paul, these movements often lack maturity of years, need leadership continuity, and require someone to make gospel inroads on campuses elsewhere. Filling this Timothy role are missionaries who will dig in and invest three to five years, or longer, in the culture. STAGE FOUR: NATIONAL LEADERSHIP In this stage of ministry, the leadership on the campus and in the country is properly passed on to nationals; to those believers now mature enough to lead the ministry in their own country. STAGE FIVE: PARTNERING NATIONS At this stage two very exciting things happen. First, the nation becomes a participant in missions, sending their own students to minister in other nations. Concurrently, U.S. students are now free to partner with new campuses in other countries.

In one to eight weeks, visiting teams of Christian students are able to create relationships, share the gospel, and disciple young believers on international campuses where the gospel has never traveled. They leave behind the seed of what will become a growing ministry on that campus. STAGE TWO: STINT How does this planted mustard seed become a growing movement? Shortterm International (STINT) missionaries were sent to invest one or two years cultivating what was sown over the summer. They also provide leadership, teaching, and further evangelism so that by the time they leave, a healthy maturing ministry is in place.

BECKY
While I initially went into the project focused on playing with African babies and just loving on them, God really ministered to me through campus outreach. He completely changed my perspective about evangelism and gave me a new sense of urgency for His message. What God really taught through campus ministry was how vital it is to depend on the empowerment of His Spirit, daily. I couldnt have gone out and shared the gospel without being filled with the spirit. Im excited to bring this mindset back to school and see God touch broken lives. Becky, Botswana Summer Project

CRU PRINCIPLES OF PARTNERSHIP

To plant and grow movements that bring the reality of Jesus to every student and every faculty member will require a radical level of cooperation within the movement of Campus Crusade for Christ, as well as the greater body of Christ. As leaders in the United States Campus Ministry, we work in overlapping spheres of responsibility, influence, and scope, but with a common aim and mission. All of this necessitates having agreed upon principles for working together and partnering. These principles are presented in order to lay a foundation. Our hope is that we will be able to build on them and capture this moment in history when God has given us so much, and yet, there are so many who remain untouched and unreached. RELATIONSHIPS FIRST The bedrock to effective partnering is trusting relationships built between leaders over time. Trust grows and understanding increases as relationships are built. This will take time and money, but an investment made in relationship builds the foundation of trust necessary to weather the storms of problems and confusion when they come. The ease or inability to address partnership problems is directly related to the quality of relationships between leaders. Mistakes will be made and problems will come up, but always there must be a commitment to full disclosure, not silent toleration. Relationship First means building trust, communicating fully, and honoring one another at all times, privately and in public. PARTNERING AS PEERS Every leader comes to the table as a peer and as an adult, not one-up, or one-down. We all view one another both in need and with something to offer. It is not healthy to only send or only receive. Learning to humbly receive and generously give is for growth and maturity for each person and each ministry. Every plan should include ways in which partners both give and receive in the mission. SHARED RESPONSIBILITY No single entity has all the necessary resources, but when we work together we can help fulfill our global mission. Shared responsibility opens access for collaboration in leadership expertise and knowledge, and allows us to learn of opportunities to contribute that go beyond just people and money. There is an open handed spirit that says

to other leaders, We need you, we cant do this alone, and dont want to do this alone. We affirm a commitment to strong mutual, urgent, and specific goals and partners should strive to that end. MUTUAL STEWARDSHIP We share stewardship for the students and faculty of the world. We are not the sole stewards. Partnership means moving from: Sole stewards to mutual or shared stewardship Personal responsibility to shared responsibility Autonomous working to collaborative working Isolated to connected Mine to ours Single to multiple Independent to partnered Insulated to communal

VALUE CONTEXTUAL INSIGHTS The strength of a global organization grows in its ability to regularly bring together contextual insights, organizational expertise, skill-sets, etc. This promotes a great exchange of ideas and best practices, allowing us to truly be a ministry always learning better ways to reach the lost and build multiplying disciples. This ripple effect will be increasing the campus ministry global effectiveness because of regularly embracing/implementing contextual insights. We approach partnering as humble learners. ONE VOICE-ONE PLAN There will be confusion unless there is a firm commitment by the partnering leaders to speak with a united voice. Without this, frustration will result for the teams and trust will erode between leaders. Building bridges of understanding between potential partnering leaders is an essential responsibility and skill for the ministry leadership. If understanding is built

between leaders, then as the Lord calls forth laborers and provides financial resources, they can move effectively toward the objective.

THE GOSPEL IN ACTION

In recent years, our commitment to the global fulfillment of the Great Commission has led us to an accelerated blending of the compassionate words and works of the gospel ofJesus Christ. Following the Asian tsunami in 2004, Cru Global Missions sent 200 students to team up with 200 Thai Cru students to work along-side Thai villagers rebuilding their homes. After Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005, we mobilized thousands of students to help clean up and gut homes. In the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, Cru teams have been mobilized to provide relief and expand ongoing development work on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince.

GHANA

Currently, Cru Global Missions teams are connecting campus ministry efforts with work in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, anti child-trafficking in the Dominican Republic, community development work in Haiti, HIV/AIDs homes in South Africa, medical clinics in Ghana, tree-planting projects in Ethiopia, and orphan care in 20-30 locations around the world. In the U.S., Cru students partner with local churches to serve the poor in our own cities. But as important as all of these humanitarian efforts are, most leaders involved in global missions agree that a critical need is for God to raise up indigenous leaders gripped by the love of Christ who

can truly help advance Christs redemptive kingdom in these needy parts of our world. That is why were committed to blending gospel proclamation to university students with social justice efforts. We believe that the Scriptures teach us to proclaim the greatness of God, the excellencies of His character, His saving power for all peoples, and to care for the widow, orphan, refugee, and poor. Can we join hands in partnership for the sake of lost students and for those most vulnerable on our planet?

BENEFITS FROM PARTICIPATING IN A CRU STATESIDE OR GLOBAL MISSION

Whether it is a vision trip, a short-term mission of 2-10 weeks, a semester of study abroad, or a 1-2 year STINT (our mid-term mission), every Cru stateside and global mission is designed to accomplish a number of important outcomes. Every team is led by Cru staff, student leaders, or volunteers who have participated in training developed over 50 years of engaging in missions. Our summer mission and project training falls into four broad categories: Love the Lord Love your team Learn a new world Launch movements ADDITIONALLY, THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE OUTCOMES EVERY TEAM WILL INTENTIONALLY PURSUE: DEVELOP A HEART FOR, AND TO PRAY FOR THE LOST DEVELOP A DAILY, CONSISTENT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD LEARN HOW TO SHARE HIS/HER FAITH STORY LEARN THE PRACTICE OF THE SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE AND HOW TO SHARE IT WITH OTHERS LEARN GODS HEART FOR DIVERSE PEOPLE GROUPS AND THEIR CULTURE COMPLETE A PERSONAL AND MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT PLAN LEARN HOW TO SHARE THE GOSPEL IN A CULTURALLY RELEVANT WAY LEARN SERVANT-LEADERSHIP AND ADAPTABILITY TO BECOME AN EFFECTIVE CROSS-CULTURAL LABORER

IN MY EXPERIENCE
At Grace Bible Church, we have enjoyed the wonderful privilege of partnering with Cru for over ten years. Over that time, weve sent hundreds of students within our church across the globe with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have been able to cultivate partnerships within key areas of the world that not only build student movements, but feed into and strengthen indigenous churches as well. Crus strategy for reaching the world through next generation leaders aligns beautifully with our mission and vision, and they provide the structure, staffing, resources, and experience to help us as a church fulfill that vision. Jamey Bryant As part of the Center for Student Action at Azusa Pacific The International Mobilization office aims to offer a quality short-term missions program where students will grow in their faith in Christ and cultivate a deep love of others inspired by a greater understanding of Gods kingdom mission. Through partnering with Cru, APU students get quality training on cross-cultural evangelism, and the opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by seasoned missionaries on-field. Cru offers the largest selection of country and ministry opportunities of all of our mission partners; and is helping APU fulfill its vision of doubling the 250+ students we send on field this year. APU is honored and blessed to partner with such a respected and God-honoring organization. Kellie Smith

STATEMENT OF FAITH
The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, Gods infallible written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that it was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks. We accept those areas of doctrinal teaching on which, historically, there has been general agreement among all true Christians. Because of the specialized calling of our movement, we desire to allow for freedom of conviction on other doctrinal matters, provided that any interpretation is based upon the Bible alone, and that no such interpretation shall become an issue which hinders the ministry to which God has called us. There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality. Jesus Christ is God, the living Word, who became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. Hence, He is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever. He lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone. He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died. He ascended bodily into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own. Man was originally created in the image of God. He sinned by disobeying God; thus, he was alienated from his Creator. That historic fall brought all mankind under divine condemnation. Mans nature is corrupted, and he is thus totally unable to please God. Every man is in need of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. The salvation of man is wholly a work of Gods free grace and is not the work, in whole or in part, of human works or goodness or religious ceremony. God imputes His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, and thereby justified them in His sight. It is the privilege of all who are born again of the Spirit to be assured of their salvation from the very moment in which they trust Christ as their Savior. This assurance is not based upon any kind of human merit, but is produced by the witness of the Holy Spirit, who confirms in the believer the testimony of God in His written word. The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to men. He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, continually indwells them from the moment of spiritual birth and seals them until the day of redemption. His fullness, power and control are appropriated in the believers life by faith. Every believer is called to live so in the power of the indwelling Spirit that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His Body, which is composed of all men, living and dead, who have been joined to Him through saving faith. God admonishes His people to assemble together regularly for worship, for participation in ordinances, for edification through the Scriptures and for mutual encouragement. At physical death the believer enters immediately into eternal, conscious fellowship with the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting glory and blessing. At physical death the unbeliever enters immediately into eternal, conscious separation from the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting judgment and condemnation. Jesus Christ will come again to the earth personally, visibly and bodily to consummate history and the eternal plan of God. The Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to disciple men of every nation. The fulfillment of that Great Commission requires that all worldly and personal ambitions be subordinated to a total commitment to Him who loved us and gave Himself for us.

WHATS NEXT?
We stand at a unique time in history. The kingdom of God is advancing at an unprecedented speed and is reaching into some of the most difficult regions of the world. Most experts on missions agree that the fulfillment of the Great Commission is within reach in our generation. And while individual churches and mission organizations are accomplishing incredible things it seems that finishing the task will require a collaborative effort involving the entire body of Christ. This small booklet is our way of extending our hand with an invitation to partnership. While the focus of this booklet has been domestic and global missions, the possibilities for partnership are enormous. They include reaching and mobilizing high school students, business men and women, and university faculty - as well as strategies that can target urban centers, ethnic groups, and church planting. So where do we go from here? Let me suggest that we commit to just two things: First, to genuinely seek to more fully understand the mission, vision, expertise, and resources that each of us bring to the table. And then, to pray. To pray that God would show us the ways in which He would have us work together with a willingness to respond as He leads. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of partnership! For the advance of His kingdom,

Mike Whipple
