Responsible for operation of large comprehensive high schools with populations up to 2,200 students and with as many as 170 faculty and staff. One school, as well as having a regular program, included a magnet program for the gifted, drawing students from several high school catchment areas. This

provided an excellent opportunity to gain experience in this area of special education. Enrichment of the curriculum was the focus rather than acceleration of the curriculum. Another school included a magnet program for students with severe physical and learning handicaps. This presented an opportunity to work with students with severe learning disabilities and involved the use of a whole cadre of specialized aides to ensure that each student had the best opportunity to progress. Chaired faculty and department head meetings on a monthly basis. Developed an ability to be proactive in actions and in communications. Because of this, the schools were calm centers of learning. Ran meetings with parents on a frequent basis with attendance of up to 1000 persons. Coordinated yearly graduation ceremonies for several hundred students with parents and other family members in attendance as well. Responsible for overseeing the development of curricula for every subject area and grade level, working with department heads and consultants from the district office, and ensuring that these curricula met all government guidelines.
