Script For Forces of Change Intro: Hello, my forces of change is communication and my research question is How has communication

impacted and changed us throughout the history? Ancient Civilization : My question for the Ancient civilization is that what was communication like during Ancient Time periods? So I did no Mesopotamia and learning to write made it possible to record events, experiences, thoughts and wisdoms for future generation. The earliest known writing appears on clay tablets around 3,300 B.C The tablets were discovered in a temple in the Sumerian City of Uruk. Temples needed a way to track of business, such as good produced, gift sent by citizens and wages issued to workers. They used variety of small tokens and then they though that it was hard so then instead of counting tokens, they would press the tokens into soft clay tablets. Other markings were added to keep track of an increasing variety of goods. The first of these were word pictures known as pictographs .(Change to 3rd slide,) They became the building blocks of the first writing system, known as cuneiform (4th Slide) from the latin word for wedge shaped symbols. Cuneiform was a complicated writing system. There were more than six hundred different symbols. All with several possible meanings. Impact : 5th Slide One way that Mesopotamia was impacted us by communication was that people in ancient civilization started using writing on clay tablets with symbols and they thought that it was an easier way for them. But then they invented easier way to write. So then in was easier for the Mesopotamia to communicate. This system is called the Pictographs. 6th Slide : Another way it was hard for them to communicate by using pictographs so then they created this thing called cuneiform writing which was easier for the Mesopotamian to write and to collect and note down things that was happening during that period of time. One of the best things that the Ancient Sumerians wrote down was a great story called the Epic of Gilgamesh. The epic of Gilgamesh is perhaps the oldest recorded story in the world. It tells about the adventures of a king of one of the city states in Ancient Sumer.

Industrial Revolution: My research question for this time period is What was communication like during the Industrial Revolution. 7th Slide : 150 years ago the quickest way to send messages over long distances was by telegraph. Telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse.8th Slide : In 1876, in a help of Thomas Watson ( an Electrical Engineer) he invented the mouth piece and ear piece. They looked exactly the same together but were joined in an electrical wire. In 1877, he set off through North America and Europe to promote his new invention. Within Ten years everyone wanted a phone. 9th Slide: Here is the Morse code from the name of Samuel Morse. This wring system is a way to communicate by telegraph. By noises and squeak and things like that. Impact : 10th Slide : The impact for the industrial revolution is that now we have this telegraph, which Samuel Morse made at an earlier part of this current society. Since we have developed

technology, there is a lot of improvements from the Telegraph. Also if no none have created the ear piece and the mouth piece ,it would take ages caring the telegraph, if people didnt improve it. Modern Day : 11th slide- Here are the different sites of what people use to do for communication. Well on Flickr, people share photos, YouTube offers everything from home videos to episodes of your favorite T.V Shows. YouTube is a lot like Flickr, people to post and share videos instead of posting photos. It is not a secret that social network is a large part of our culture. Lots of bullying and teasing happen by using social network to communicate someone. In the early days of internet, people eagerly took advantage of the new technology-email. 12h Slide : here is a pie chart on what people are using to communicate throughout this day. Impact: 13th slide : Today communication had a different impact on society. One way it impacted the people today was lots of ways to communicate has happened so then you can communicate quicker and easier than before. Also the negative thing is that students are victims of social networking than anyone else. It is because when they are studying, they get attracted to these sites to kill the boredom in the study time, turn aside their focus from their work. Another way is that communication is easy to use and the devices are fashionable to carry around and it is also very compact. Also from the social networking, the students reduces their learning and their research capabilities, (ability power). Social media communities are able to respond in real time to calls for help, no matter the nature.

Message : 14th Slide : From studying the three time periods in time, we can conclude that Communication has had an enormous impact on how people tell their thoughts and messages to other people. This has been made more easily and efficiently. Also since there are lots of ways to communicate, social media are helping volunteers connect with those in need in real time.15th Slide The evidence for this is that when the super storm sandy hit the USA, the victims needed a lot of help and volunteers helped by communicating by social media like Facebook, Twitter etc.,
