ZebOS Network Platform

The De Facto Standard for Software-Defined Networking
The future of networking is software, and ZebOS is the de facto standard for software-defined networking.
The networking industry is changing, moving away from the hardware dominated solutions of the early 21st century to a network defined by software platforms. This change is necessary as the industry innovates at breakneck speeds to accommodate billions of new mobile users, the advent of Big Data, and the emergence of IT as a service. The wide spread availability of commercial networking chipsets changes the economics of the network, driving commoditization of hardware and the emergence of software-defined networking (SDN). IP Infusion is at the core of this networking revolution. The emergence of cloud computing and network virtualization increases the need to innovate at software speeds. The challenge is to remove the network as a bottleneck to ubiquitous computing. IP Infusion addresses these challenges with an SDN architecture that features: Split control plane design Modularity and programmability High degree of scalability 200+ routing and switching protocols Hardware abstraction to operate on a variety of silicon switching chipsets Embedded operating system (OS) abstraction to run on a variety of control processors Configuration management APIs Extensive third-party validation For more than a decade IP Infusion has provided the ZebOS software-based routing and switching platform used in mission-critical networks in mobile backhaul, carrier transport, and data center networks.

IP Infusion ZebOS Platform Software Delivers

Hardware and Embedded OS Abstraction 200+ Routing and Switching Protocols
Hardware abstraction decouples the L2/L3 services from the Modular, highly scalable control plane architecture underlying data plane hardware; enables portability across Reduced protocol suite footprint, reducing the demands on
multiple merchant semiconductor switching chipsets. Software/OS abstraction enables the ZebOS platform to be readily ported to different OS and CPUs. Already integrated with popular networking chipsets Qualified on popular embedded operating systems Additional integrations available through Professional Services the control processor CPU, memory, etc. Protocol modules run autonomously, isolating individual protocol failures from other operational protocols Future-proof platform by enabling new protocols and standards to be readily supported

Control Plane Supporting 200+ Protocols

ZebOS is targeted at Tier 1 and Tier 2 network equipment manufacturers who provide solutions in: Carrier transport, access, and Carrier Ethernet Mobile backhaul and access Data Center and cloud networking, including solutions for Enterprise Private Clouds, Hybrid Clouds, and Public Clouds The ZebOS Network Platform supports more than 200 routing and switching protocols in these key areas: Layer 2 MPLS and MPLS-TP Layer 3 Carrier Ethernet (Metro Ethernet) Data Center Ethernet, including DCB, TRILL, and SPB ZebOS provides a modular architecture, allowing you to select and integrate only the protocols needed to support specific applications. Each protocol module is implemented as a separate process that maintains its own address space and stack. This isolates issues with one protocol module from all others. Another benefit is the ability to readily add a customized protocol module to address specific needs. ZebOS protocol modules conform to leading IEEE, IETF, MEF, industry-specific standards and implementation agreements.

ZebOS supports a High Availability (HA) middleware framework based on the OpenSAF 4.2 standard. HA support for ZebOS allows for Simplex-Active or Active-Standby (1+1) control plane CPU redundancy. HA performs immediate recovery of protocols that complete check-pointing of all protocol states for LACP, MSTP, and NSM hosted RIB and interface states between the Active and the Standby controllers.

Hardware and Embedded OS Abstraction

The ZebOS Network Platform has been built upon an SDN architecture that includes hardware and embedded OS software abstraction layers to decouple the protocol and network service modules from the underlying forwarding plane hardware. The ZebOS Abstraction Layer isolates all of the hardware and operating system specific interactions into a small set of well-defined function calls for the control plane. The abstraction layer provides a unified interface for the control plane to interact with the forwarding plane for all L2, L3, multicast and MPLS network services. The protocol modules running above the abstraction layer run unmodified for any switching and routing hardware platform. The result is that you have the full flexibility to select only the required protocol modules in the most cost and code space effective way.

Integrated Management Software

The ZebOS Network Platform provides management APIs for integration with external network management, OSS, or provisioning systems through a rich set of APIs supporting CLI, SNMP, SMI, and ZebOS internal APIs.
